Nothing about Kevin Smith’s 1994 cult-classic film Clerks lent itself to making an animated version for ABC. Not the maxed-out credit-card budget, not the grainy, black-and-white cinematography, and surely not the foulmouthed, esoteric nerding out about innocent plumbers dying on the Death Star or how much the average jizz mopper makes working a nudie booth. And yet, thanks to studio politics, the Disney-owned network is exactly where the animated adaptation landed. It was no surprise then when the premiere got bumped back to the pilot graveyard that is summer, only two of the original six episodes aired on the network, and Dante and Randal curtly got told that they weren’t supposed to be there today … or any day for that matter. Editors’ Picks No, Clerks the cartoon dropped dead qui...
In a world gone mad, the Twitterverse reveals itself as both a tool for positivity and asinine outrage. At the same time as K-pop stans mobilized to sabotage a Dallas Police Department snitching app, right-wing trolls spread false allegations of The National’s Aaron Dessner being an Antifa organizer. He has since clarified that, of course, he’s not. Video circulated over the weekend of a bearded white man at a Columbus protest appearing to pay black protesters cash to, as the accusers claimed, start a riot. Twitter user @LilBlondie45, a woman whose name reads “Michelle 🇺🇸 PUT CUOMO IN A NURSING HOME” and whose account has since been suspended, thought she recognized the man as Dessner, and sicced people on the musician. “Meet @aaron_dessner he’s an Antifa org...
Billboard will be taking part in #TheShowMustBePaused, or “Blackout Tuesday,” in solidarity with the nationwide protests demanding justice. This movement, created by music industry executives Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemang in response to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless other Black citizens at the hands of police, urges that we not conduct business and instead use this time to reflect and learn. The blackout, scheduled for Tuesday (June 2), “is meant to intentionally disrupt the work week,” according to initiative’s website. “Monday suggests a long weekend, and we can’t wait until Friday for change. It is a day to take a beat for an honest, reflective and productive conversation about what actions we need...
On June 2, the music industry will unite for “Blackout Tuesday”—a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with the community—but most importantly, as a call-to-action to end racial injustice and police brutality. “As gatekeepers of the culture, it’s our responsibility to not only come together to celebrate the wins, but also hold each other up during loss,” reads a statement that’s being circulated under the hashtag #TheShowMustBePaused. In response to the recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless other Black citizens at the hands of police, the initiative was created by music executives Jamila Thomas and Brianna Agyemang, “two Black women in music in observance of the long-standing racism and inequality that exists from the boardroom t...

Elsewhere on the midweek albums chart, Norwegian prod...

As the music industry enters “Blackout Tuesday” in response to the death of another unarmed African-American at the hands of police, Balvin adds his voice to the growing calls for racial justice. The Colombian reggaeton star makes a pledge “to do better” and to continue learning, and he calls on his Latino community to do the same. Writing in Spanish and English, Balvin explains: “After taking time to speak to those close with me, I am educating myself on the deep significance and horrifying history that is the root of the #blacklivesmatter movement.” He continues, “I appreciate that it is my responsibility as a leader in the Latino community to educate myself of the ...
Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN Travis Scott has joined a growing number of celebrities who have used their platforms to address the current state of race relations in America. The Houston star threw his support behind protestors enraged by the murder of George Floyd and other Black lives that were unfairly lost in a recent Instagram post, albeit later than most would have preferred. From Scott’s Instagram page: As I pace around thinking, trying to find something to ease the pain…there are almost no words that I can think of to properly express, or I can use to suppress, this enraged feeling of us continuously losing our brothers and sisters to brutality at the hands of officers, or anyone with misguided intentions for our well-being. The rage that we are feeling is from direct personal experie...
