Here’s How to Watch Nicky Jam’s Billboard Live At-Home Performance
With many people continuing to shelter in place during the global coronavirus pandemic, Nicky Jam will provide some entertainment as one of this week’s Billboard Live At-Home guests. The Puerto Rican reggaeton star will go live at 1 p.m. EST from his own home on Thursday (May 28) via Billboard’s Facebook page to connect with fans during these challenging times. Jam is the latest guest to perform aspart of the Billboard Live At-Home series since its launch in late March. Nearly a decade ago, singer-songwriter-guitarist Bombino told his longtime manager, Eric Herman, that he wanted to open a recording studio in his home country of Niger. “It is materially a very poor country,” says Herman. “It’s rare to find studios that would be up to world-standard in Africa in general.” Plus, since Bombino — who champions his Tuareg identity and culture in his lyrics — usually spends eight months of the year touring, Herman felt “it needed some sort of outside push to get going.” That push came in 2019 when Welsh producer-engineer-musician David Wrench (who mixed Bombino’s 2016 album, Azel) approached the artist about working together again. Twenty One Pilots have shared “Level of Concern” (live from outside), an alternate version of the quarantine-inspired song that the duo released in April. This version features pals and collaborators including Paul Meany (Mutemath), Jesse Blum (MisterWives), and Simon Jefferis. According to a release, the concept for the new version happened as the group decided to work on recording a remote performance of the tune that they performed on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. “Level of Concern” ended up hitting no. 1 on Billboard’s “Alternative Songs” and “Rock Airplay” charts. According to City Pages, area residents have noticed a black ice cream truck cruising through the streets while blaring out extreme metal music. Even though it also plays a more traditional ice-cream-truck jingle and appears to have images of various ice cream choices on the side of the truck, it never stops for treat-seeking kids with money in their hands. Joyce Manor have announced a new rarities album called Songs from Northern Torrance. It’s due out digitally this coming Friday, May 29th, with a vinyl release to follow on September 19th. Named after the band’s hometown of Torrance, a city about 20 miles south of Los Angeles, the album collects early material from the band when it was just starting out as an acoustic duo. Dating back to 2008-2010, the recordings previously only existed in a live setting, or on rare demo CDs. Among the included tracks are “DFHP?”, which originally came out on a split release with Summer Vacation, and “Who Gave You a Baby”, a song that later appeared on a Hard Times charity compilation.
