Puscifer Share ‘Apocalyptical,’ First New Song in 5 Years

Tool had been rolling along on the road — until the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Once that tour got postponed, singer Maynard James Keenan instead (in all likelihood) figured it was a good time to roll out a new Puscifer song. Titled “Apocalyptical,” which is decidedly fitting for these times, the five-and-a-half-minute tune is synth-driven and the video for it, which you can watch below, is likely inspired by the pandemic. It starts off with a guy skateboarding in a hazmat suit in Los Angeles and kinda just goes off from there. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Keenan explained a bit about the song and how it was made. “Try it again tomorrow or try it again a week from now, but don’t let yourself off the hook. Force it. And then all of a sudden you’ll find when you get past this, it’s ...

A CHAL’s ‘No Cure’ Playlist

With everyone sequestered and self-quarantining due to the coronavirus, we’ve asked our favorite artists to come up with playlists that keep you entertained. Here’s singer-songwriter/producer A. CHAL: Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit of melancholy, sweet highs and calm comedowns. Sometimes the sky is blue, sometimes it’s grey and sometimes I make it purple- it can feel dangerous, but also sexy. I feel like I’m on a trip that may never end. Can’t tell what’s real and what’s not and right now, there’s no cure for me. A.CHAL – “Hollywood Love” ft. GunnaHollywood Love is the soundtrack to a lot of people’s love life out here in L.A. This is that 5 am ride back to the crib from her house vibe. This is one of my fav Gunna verses of all time. Kurt Cobain – “And I Love Her”First time I heard this s...

Muse’s Matt Bellamy Gives Us Hope With ‘Tomorrow’s World’

Muse singer Matt Bellamy has just released a new song and it sonically takes you to a far-off place — something that many of us may be needing right now. “Tomorrow’s World” is a piano-propelled tune with a melody that seems to lift you out of your chair and into a dream-like state. And with Bellamy’s whispery tone, it feels like he’s trying to remind you that everything will be alright in the end. “This song captures my mood and feelings whilst in lockdown,” Bellamy said in a statement. “I have been reminded of what really matters in life and have discovered growing optimism, appreciation and hope for the future.” With lyrics like “Look for tomorrow / The end of our sorrows / Our world could be so full of joy,” Bellamy wants people to continue being hopeful. It’s pretty tough getting your daily dose of Vitamin D while stuck indoors, but Kim Petras is back to bring sunny California straight to her fans. Today, the German pop singer has released a summery new single called “Malibu”. Inspired by Baywatch and the beautiful beach city itself, the track is a “return to color, the feeling of being in love, and the escapism pop that I love the most,” Petras explained in a statement. She said that after breakup bop “Reminds Me” and last year’s Clarity project “I had cried all my tears and moved on, so this is a reflection of how I’ve been feeling.” The Ariana Grande and Charli XCX associate hopes her fans, too, are lifted up by the single — especially during this pandemic. “I just want ‘Malibu’ to be a fizzy, refreshing drink that comes to you dur...

Jacknife Lee Starts a Riot With Beth Ditto and Earl St. Clair on “I’m Getting Tired”: Stream

Between lockdown, the pandemic death toll, and The White House’s endless foibles, it’s hard not to feel completely burnt out on reality. That’s the kind of energy producer Jacknife Lee is channeling on his latest single, “I’m Getting Tired”, featuring Beth Ditto and Earl St. Clair. With the help of his two collaborators, Lee turns all of his inner frustrations outward in the form of soulful chaos mixed with noise-rock and fiery jazz fusion and funk. The collision of genres may seem a little busy on paper, but Lee is a master of balancing everything out — after all, his production credits do include an array of artists, such as R.E.M., Taylor Swift, and The Killers, and Regina Spektor. And at the end of the day, it’s that clashing of feelings and sounds that ultimately provides the catharsi...

Soundgarden Countersue Vicky Cornell, Claim She Used Charity Show Proceeds for “Personal Purposes”

The surviving members of Soundgarden have countersued Chris Cornell’s widow, Vicky Cornell, alleging that she used funds from a 2019 benefit concert for her own “personal purposes.” They also contend that she has taken over the band’s social media accounts without permission, and have also formerly responded to her claims over rights to unreleased songs they say were intended for a new Soundgarden album. Back in December, Vicky sued the Soundgarden members, accusing them of falsely claiming ownership of seven unreleased songs and withholding royalties from her over the dispute. The band had insisted that the songs were meant for a new Soundgarden album, but Vicky claimed no formal agreement was made between Chris and his bandmates as to the intended destination of the tracks. In their coun...
