Desus And Mero Split Over Issues Surrounding Their Long-Time Manager, Allegedly

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: John Lamparski / Getty When I first heard that Desus and Mero would not be returning to Showtime for a fifth season—I an’t gon’ lie—my heart sank. I was in a salty mood for most of that day. You have to understand, they were heroes of mine. They reminded me of me and my boys sitting in an apartment front room cracking jokes at each other or at anything in sight while watching TV and enjoying—well—smokable refreshments of the recreational variety. These two Black men made it all the way to a late-night show on a premium cable channel—a platform historically reserved for white men and people of color who are palatable for white consumption—and they did it without code-switching. In the American entertainment industry, that’s a monumental feat. So yeah, the ...

How Singer-Songwriter Montell Fish Is Redefining Christian Music

Montell Fish became a musician the same way he began his latest album: with a broken heart. “I was passionate and I went through a breakup,” he says. “Every time I go through a breakup, I write a good album.” At the time, Fish was 16 years old, and newly kicked out of his mother’s house due to a budding romance with drugs. (“Weed edibles, and then psychedelics like shrooms,” he elaborates). Quickly, he spiraled into a state of depression, unsuccessfully juggling the breakup with a girlfriend and familial tumult, turning to music creation, and eventually, God, for reprieve. “I was just so low and depressed that I started calling out to God like, ‘If you’re real, show me,’” he explains. “And then I began to see the God that my mom knew.” Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See...

Eddie Vedder Returns To Action at Pearl Jam’s Amsterdam Tour Finale

After his vocal issues forced Pearl Jam to cancel its last three shows, Eddie Vedder returned to the stage tonight (July 25) in Amsterdam just in time for the final concert on the band’s summer European itinerary. Vedder completely lost his voice after he performed in hot, dusty and smoky conditions on July 17 at Lollapalooza Paris. He revealed early in tonight’s show that doctors told him he’d need two weeks to recover, but Vedder was having none of it. “I said, ‘I’m not gonna fuckin’ leave this part of the world without playing one more show,’” he replied. Turnover Announce New Album Myself in the Way, Share Title Track Featuring Turnstile’s Brendan Yates: Stream

Turnover have announced a new album and shared the video for the title track “Myself in the Way” featuring Turnstile singer Brendan Yates. The Virginia band’s fifth studio album drops November 4th via Run for Cover Records. The smooth track sees Turnover going in a chilled-out disco direction with auto-tuned vocals and jazzy chords. With Yates on board, it’s hard to not compare the song with the more R&B-tinged moments on Turnstile’s latest album, Glow On. The similar band names also add a parallel element. “Over the last couple of years, I really tried to stop finding reasons why not to do something,” Turnover singer Austin Getz said via a press release. “This song specifically is about getting engaged despite fears I’ve always had of being able to provide for a family, to give a...
