Darren Tate and Above & Beyond’s Jono Grant Join Forces for Synthwave-Inspired Alias, JODA

Above & Beyond‘s Jono Grant has caught the synthwave bug.  Working in secret alongside longtime friend and fellow trance producer Darren Tate, Grant has formulated a new collaborative alias, JODA. Dropping their debut track, “We Find Ourselves,” Tate and Grant say the single is inspired by 2011’s Drive soundtrack, one of the most acclaimed film scores of the modern era. The working relationship between Grant and Tate was first established nearly two decades ago. In 2003, they linked in the studio and produced two melodically dense, uplifting trance singles, “‘Let The Light Shine In” and “Nocturnal Creatures.” As Grant’s career began to take off with Above & Beyond and Tate’s solo career as DT8 prospered, the two...

Bruce Greenwood to Replace Frank Langella in Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher

Bruce Greenwood is replacing Frank Langella in Netflix’s upcoming series The Fall of the House of Usher, Variety reports. Earlier this month, Langella was fired from the show after an internal investigation determined that he “had been involved in unacceptable conduct on set.” It was later confirmed Langella’s misconduct involved making “an inappropriate joke that was sexual in nature.” Greenwood will now star as Roderick Usher in the eight-episode series, which is a modern retelling of Edgar Allan Poe’s story of the same name. Created by Mike Flanagan, the man behind The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, the show also stars Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, and Mark Hamill. Langella, 84, is best known for his roles in Frost/Nixon...

Netflix Cancels Space Force After Two Seasons

Netflix has canceled Steve Carell’s comedy series Space Force after two seasons, as first reported by Deadline. The decision comes just two months after Season 2 debuted on February 18th. Space Force was a workplace comedy centering around a group of people tasked with establishing the sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces, which was formed under President Trump and continued under the new administration. After an uneven first season, Space Force was retooled by Daniels and Carell to be more like The Office with promising results. In our review of Season 2, Senior Entertainment Editor Liz Shannon Miller described how the changes improved the sho...

Bop Shop: Songs From Zolita, Giveon, Dove Cameron, And More

Alt-pop singer Zolita has captivated the internet with her viral lesbian romance trilogy. It starts with a high-school coming-out story in “Somebody I F*cked Once,” weaving its way to a college breakup with “Single in September,” and comes to an epic conclusion with new single “I F*cking Love You.” The track itself is a vivacious and triumphant anthem about fully giving into love, with its sticky chorus playing out like a synthy stream of consciousness: “What if I let it slip, tell you that / You’re the only one I’m seeing?” The infatuation in her voice is palpable, as if we’re hearing her come to an earth-shattering realization in real-time: “Oh my god, I fucking love you.” “The song itself is one of the first true love songs I’ve ever released, and I think it perfectly encapsulates the e...
