When people think of Final Fantasy, they most certainly don’t think of the brutal combat systems that Team Ninja is known for. But with Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin’s release last month, that’s exactly what fans got. The unique combination of style, gameplay and worldbuilding provides a very different experience than any other Final Fantasy game (and pretty much any other Team Ninja title, for that matter), giving Stranger of Paradise a vibe all its own. It’s the Final Fantasy prequel no one asked for, but it still works surprisingly well. Along with that interesting world comes an equally fascinating soundtrack. Composer Naoshi Mizuta put together a score that perfectly encapsulates the combination of the game’s dark atmosphere and Final Fantasy magic, blending the cinematic...
“A little bit stunning, a little bit shocking, a little bit funny, and a little bit heartfelt.” That’s how drag and recording artist Alaska Thunderfuck 5000 describes her music, and how we would also describe her–only putting ‘heartfelt’ at the forefront. In completing her 5 Albums I Can’t Live Without feature with us last year, she said she’s best known for “being from outer space,” and with her meteoric rise to media fame, we’re believers. This glorious superstar’s yet-to-be-released fourth studio album Red 4 Filth teased us with several pre-release singles, including the early-2000s rave-inspired “XOXOY2K”. Of all of the songs on her new album, she tells us that “22,” written by Jay Stolar, JBACH, Chester Krupa & Justin Honard (aka Alaska), is the most personal. “We wrote it as a le...
Soccer Mommy shared “Unholy Affliction” from her upcoming album, Sometimes, Forever. “Unholy Affliction” delves into a grimy, methodical space with textured instrumentals and unsettling vocals. Soccer Mommy continues to push the boundaries of her ’90s alt-rock-inspired music. Daniel Lopatin of Oneohtrix Point Never is producing the album. The collaboration between the two artists highlights the bold strides Sophie Allison has made in the development of her personal sound. As she becomes more popular, Allison seeks more subversive and experimental sounds that bring indie-rock into a new era. [embedded content][embedded content] “’Unholy’ was really fun in the studio because the end result was totally different from what we expected,” explains Allison. “Dan made this really cool sequence wit...

In a new interview with Jeff Gaudiosi of MisplacedStraws.com, RAINBOW singer Ronnie Romero was asked about the current status of the band, six years after the Ritchie Blackmore-led outfit first reformed to play sporadic shows. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “We normally keep in contact — not very often, because, obviously, Ritchie is a very insulated person. But I don’t think there’s gonna be any plan in the near future because the pandemic was way complicated, obviously, for all the music business. And now it’s like everything is getting back to normal but delayed two years. So there is a lot of shows happening. And until it gets completely back to normal, it’s gonna happen at least a couple of years. So I think Ritchie is not too much into the...
LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe was forced to miss the band’s concert Tuesday night (April 19) in Grand Rapids, Michigan after testing positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. It was an absolute honor and I’m ext...

Søren was an incredibly loving person who cared a lot about others, and you could always count on him when life was tough. He was the best friend one could ever dream of. We miss him every day, and we wish he had told us how he felt so that we could have helped him. The consequences of suicide are indescribably tough for those who are left behind. Losing a loved one in that way is not something we will ever get over. It is something you have to live with for the rest of your life. Last spring, before Søren passed away, we had just finished a record which was ready for release. Writing our debut album has been a constant since we started Liss seven years ago. With the blessing and encouragement of Søren’s family, we’ve decided to share that music with you over the coming months. These are s...
