We Sat Down With 2022’s Most Viral Piece of Music Merchandise, Chris Farren’s The Cup

Chris Farren knows a lot of music and merchandising. First, he served as the frontman for the Florida-based punk act Fake Problems for nearly a decade. For the past eight years, he’s been releasing indie rock albums under his own name, building up a rabid fan base via his captivating online persona and social media presence. On the side, he’s also created merchandise that’s been embraced by the internet, most notably his The Smiths parody shirt, which became so popular that Jimmy Fallon presented one to Will Smith during an appearance on The Tonight Show in 2014. However, Farren has never created a piece of merch that’s also a sentient being… until now. To promote his latest release for Polyvinyl Records, “Death Don’t Wait” (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) — which is itself a score to ...

Conversations With a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes Shows the Banality of Evil: Review

The Pitch: Years on, the American public is still obsessed with serial killers — who they are, what makes them tick, the lurid details of their murderous escapades. No one knows this more than the folks at Netflix, who toss out a new true-crime documentary every other week, and whose biggest hits include shows like Mindhunter. One of the platform’s biggest hits was 2019’s Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, which assembled a four-part chronicle of his crimes, his history, and the trial that ignited the public’s imagination. Now director Joe Berlinger is back with a follow-up, The John Wayne Gacy Tapes, drawing from nearly 60 hours of recorded interviews with another infamous mass murderer to tell another tale of lost innocence, the nature of madness, and the various...

Hailey Bieber Begs Trolls to Leave Her Alone: ‘Be Miserable Somewhere Else’

Hailey Bieber has had enough. On Tuesday, the model shared a message with her online haters and didn’t hold anything back. “This is for you guys in my comments every single time I post,” she captioned the frank TikTok video, which finds her speaking directly to the camera. “Leave me alone at this point,” she says in the clip. “I’m minding my business, I don’t do anything, I don’t say anything. Leave me alone. Please. Enough time has gone by where it’s valid to leave me alone. I beg of you, truly. That’s my only request. Leave me alone. Be miserable somewhere else. Once again, the producer is kitted-out in his motorbike leathers and helmet, hanging in a space that could be Gollum’s cave if the Extreme Makeover team got involved. “This amazing track by Flume and Caroline inspired us to create a film that hovers at the intersection of nature and te...
