Andy Kaufman is the subject of a forthcoming as yet untitled feature documentary, as The Hollywood Reporter notes. Morgan Neville, who directed the Anthony Bourdain documentary Roadrunner, is producing the project, with Alex Braverman as its director. Josh and Benny Safdie’s Elara Pictures is credited as an executive producer, according to THR, as well as Rick Rubin. The film also includes input from Robert Zmuda, who worked closely with Kaufman during his lifetime. Preferring to be called an “entertainer” rather than a comedian or actor, Kaufman was known for his unusual antics, which revolved around wrestling bits and often involved music. Though Kaufman died of lung cancer at age 35 in 1984, his work influenced performers well outside of comedy for its physicality, tension, and ab...

Dillon Francis will be going inside the mind of Marc Rebillet for the debut episode of the latter’s new Amazon Music show, We’ve Got Company. Francis has been confirmed as the second special guest in the series, following Flying Lotus’ appearance in the first episode. Broadcasting bi-weekly, We’ve Got Company is described as “a talk show inside of a sitcom.” Rebillet and his guests will create music on the fly, interact with viewers, play video games and more, all inside the world of a zany TV sitcom hosted by Loop Daddy himself. While the episode with Francis is technically the second episode in the series, it will be the broadcast debut of We’ve Got Company since the pilot with Lotus never made the air due to technical difficulties. “I made it here,” I wrote to a mentor of mine while the sound of xylophones quietly trickled in the background. Direction has been an ever-evolving map for me. Instances where the paper folds over have placed creases in what I had assumed was my intended road. Hot take, but I must say the notion of Calvin’s perceived pre-destination certainly doesn’t consider the natural flow and state of things. I watched an interview with Zane Lowe and Ed Sheeran the other night about Ed Sheeran “returning to music” after an 18-month hiatus. He took the break after concluding years of touring for his records, the size of which exploded beyond anything he had perceived. It came from one idea – do a massive stadium tour and ensure that as many people hear and experience his music and story. But that was th...

Daft Punk are the gift that keep on giving. In celebration of the 40-year anniversary of the original TRON film, Disney has announced a vinyl reissue of the 1982 sci-fi classic’s soundtrack. The company is also pressing new vinyl of Daft Punk’s iconic TRON: Legacy score and subsequent remix album, 2011’s TRON: Legacy Reconfigured, which features reworks of the robots’ music by Avicii, M83, Boys Noize and The Glitch Mob, among others. TRON: Legacy remains Daft Punk’s only film score. Featuring an 85-piece orchestra, the soundtrack took over two years to create and eventually debuted atop Billboard‘s Dance/Electronic Albums chart. In late 2021, 11 years to the day, the timeless album reclaimed that top spot. The original TRON film was scored by legend...

SANTA CRUZ frontman Archie Cruz has fired back at reports that he was “miming” to a track during the band’s performance last week in West Hollywood, California. On April 6, SANTA CRUZ — whose current lineup consists of Cruz along with new recruits Jerry Jade (guitar), Tommy Bradley (bass) and Randy McDemian (drums) — played a show at the legendary Whisky A Go Go venue. The following day, a fan-filmed video of SANTA CRUZ performing the song “Under The Gun” was posted on the “concertsrock” YouTube channel, showing Cruz at one point walking away from the microphone while the singing continued to be heard through the P.A. until Cruz, Jade and Bradley returned to their microphones for what was the song’s chorus section. Two days after the concert,...
Eicca Toppinen of Finnish cello metallers APOCALYPTICA spoke to Mexico’s Summa Inferno about his band’s plans for a follow-up to 2020’s “Cell-0” LP. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “We have started to talk about the next possible album. But in the meanwhile, we’ve been recording individual songs so we could release something constantly. So now we have already [planned out the] three next releases after [the recent single] ‘I’ll Get Through It’. We’re gonna have something for the later [part] of the year as well; we’re gonna have something for the winter. So we are working on different fields — on the instrumental field, on some special fields and then also on the vocal field. “I would guess we’...
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has blasted people who object to his stage banter, saying they shouldn’t be attending his band’s concerts anyway. The 60-year-old guitarist/vocalist, who has a history of making wacky political conjectures, made his comments during MEGADETH‘s performance last night (Tuesday, April 12) at Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado as part of the group’s “The Metal Tour Of The Year” with LAMB OF GOD. Mustaine said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “The last couple of nights I’ve been talking from the stage. It’s been a long time, and we’ve all been waiting for live music again. And there’s some people who have taken exception to some things that I’ve said from the stage the las...
SCORPIONS guitarist Rudolf Schenker has once again responded to criticism from his brother Michael after the former UFO axeman accused him of being a “dangerous bully” who “takes advantage” his younger sibling. Michael Schenker gave a number of interviews in recent years in which he questioned his brother’s integrity, going so far as to call Rudolf “a con artist” who “completely adopted” Michael‘s image as his own. He also denounced the SCORPIONS for “distorting” the story of his brief tenure with the band and lamented the fact that he gave Rudolf his “portion” of the songwriting credit for the classic SCORPIONS song “Coast To Coast”. It all came to light, Michael said, when he was approached to...
