POISON frontman and lifelong Type 1 diabetic Bret Michaels is lending his voice to the Affordable Insulin Now act which would cap insulin prices at $35 for people with private health plans and Medicare Part D plans. Michaels, currently on a solo tour and about to embark on “The Stadium Tour” with POISON this summer, fully favors the Affordable Insulin Now act and encourages his friends and followers to make sure they tell their representatives and government officials to vote in favor of the act. Michaels partnered with EASE T1D and worked with California aenator Richard Roth to fight for the passage of what became SB97 in California, bringing much-needed diabetes education to school children. “All diabetics deserve a fighting chance to afford insulin,” states Micha...

It’s incredibly exciting to be able to share it with the world.” He added on Twitter that the book was about his “teenage idiocy, life in general, gigs and playing in Mogwai.”

Car Therapy Sessions is out April 29 via Secretly Canadian. Watch the video below. The new EP features songs from I Know I’m Funny Haha and Atlanta Millionaires Club. “The recording experience was beautiful, I was truly fighting tears,” Webster said in a statement. “I think I had actually even cried listening to the demos. I was put in a position where I could see the conductor as well as the producer, which I needed because I honestly couldn’t pick up on my cues sometimes even though I wrote the songs. I was so distracted in how beautiful the orchestra soun...
Today, the inaugural Harlem Festival of Culture has been announced. The event was inspired by Questlove’s award–winning documentary Summer of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised), which centered on the long-forgotten Harlem Cultural Festival of 1969. The reimagined festival will take place in the summer of 2023 at the same location as the original event: Marcus Garvey Park, formerly known as Mount Morris Park. Exact dates have not been revealed, however the lead-up to the event will consist of a series of live entertainment and social and economic development programs, culminating with a multi-day outdoor music festival, according to press materials. The Harlem Festival of Culture was founded by Musa Jackson, (editor in chief of Ambassador Digital Magazine) wh...
Leah and Jaylan have repeatedly stated their intentions to live closer to each other and not date at a distance. But during tonight’s Teen Mom 2 episode, the couple — who just officially became boyfriend and girlfriend — experienced a setback in their shared goal. Jaylan got a job in West Virginia, but it was not as close to Leah as she had hoped and he needed to be “in person for a bit” (aka not work remotely). Leah pondered why he would not just stay in Georgia since they wouldn’t be in close proximity regardless. “It’s eight hours versus two hours,” he explained to Leah. “Georgia is out of reach, babe.” “I think long-distance is long-distance any way you look at it,” Leah countered. “It’s not like ...

The otherwise musically-mononymous Jewel Kilcher’s story could be a lesson in real-life fairy tales: the rural Alaskan native who yodeled with her cowboy-musician dad, slept enchantedly under star-filled skies with her ranch animals, and was so free-spirited she once lived out of her car, taking photos to prove it, smiling, guitar in hand. By the time she was 20, she had signed a deal with Atlantic Records and in 1995, she released her multi-platinum debut Pieces of You. From there she rode off into a Grammy-nominated, stardom-laced sunset. But that’s hardly the whole story. “The big misconception, I think, in my career was that I was living in my car for my dream,” Jewel tells me. “That was not the case, I was living in my car because a boss wanted to have sex with me and when I wouldn’t,...
As often as the adjective of “Japanese” gets thrown around to describe a video game, there’s a big difference between a game that just happens to be made by a Japanese team, one that’s set in Japan, and one that actually channels the spirit of the historic nation. Trek to Yomi is most definitely the third of these options, with a setting, plot and style that are all distinctly channeling both classic samurai movies as well as real Japanese history. Ahead of its release next month, SPIN spoke with composer and music producer Cody Johnson (Lost Soul Aside, Resident Evil 2) as well as composer and music director Yoko Honda to get the inside scoop about Trek to Yomi’s authentically Japanese soundtrack. As an added bonus, the co-composers were kind enough to share a brand new track, “Uchū,” whi...
It’s late morning in early April and Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe – otherwise known as Lucius – look like Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe. This is only a notable thing because when they perform together, they don’t so much appear as themselves but as two arms of the same whole: voices twisted and wrapped around each other like structural vines, their matching hair and mirrored outfits like looking at one figure with over-rubbed eyes. Their physical presentation is just one part of how this duo of exquisite singer-songwriters toys with the idea of harmony, and how voices and music can blend to create its own new beating heart – how it all becomes, as their new album is titled Second Nature. “I’m in my pajamas,” says Laessig, looking down at her blue sleepshirt, Zooming from bed. Wolfe, in Nash...

Belle and Sebastian unveiled their latest single “Young and Stupid.” The song is off their upcoming new album A Bit Of Previous out May 6 via Matador. The single is accompanied by a lyric video showcasing the band members’ family photo albums which adds to the nostalgic nature of the track. [embedded content][embedded content] “Young and Stupid” is the second single off of A Bit Of Previous, preceded by “Unnecessary Drama.” The band recorded the album in the spring of 2020 in Glasgow. “We did it together, us and the city. This record was the first ‘full’ LP recording for B&S in Glasgow since Fold Your Hands Child, 1999. We clocked in every morning, we played our songs, we wrote together, we tried new things, we took the proverbial lump of clay, and we threw it every day,” Stuart M...
