In early February, Snoop Dogg was sued by a woman who claimed that the rapper sexually assaulted her in California in 2013. After Snoop Dogg and the other defendants filed motions for dismissal on March 24, the woman and her attorney yesterday filed a notice of voluntary dismissal of the lawsuit. The woman, identified as Jane Doe, had been suing Snoop Dogg for a violation of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, for sexual battery, for sexual assault, and more. In addition to Snoop Dogg, she named as defendants the rapper’s associate Bishop Don “Magic” Juan and the companies Gerber & Co, Inc.; the Broadus Collection, LLC; Casa Verde Capital, LLC; and Merry Jane Events, Inc. In a statement shared with Pitchfork, a spokesparty for Snoop Dogg said, “The allegations of sexual assault aga...

Kurt Cobain is getting an opera. According to The Guardian, Gus Van Zant’s 2005 film Last Days is being turned into an opera. The film is about an impending suicide, in which a Cobain-inspired character named Blake will embody the Nirvana frontman in his final days. The adaptation is being done by London’s Royal Opera House, and the house’s composer Oliver Leith is said to be a huge Nirvana fan. He told The Guardian that Cobain’s narrative is “an archetypal story — operas deal well in those.” Leith also said that Van Zant had not sensationalized Cobain’s story. Matt Copson is creating the opera’s libretto, and he will also direct the show alongside Anna Morrissey. In a statement from the ROH, the Last Days opera “plunges into the torment that created a modern myth,...
Interpol are back with a new album titled The Other Side of Make-Believe. Interpol’s seventh studio album will be released on July 15 via Matador. This album marks a new chapter for the band as they intend to explore unseen levels of vulnerability and experimentation within their instrumentation. “There’s always a seventh time for a first impression.” says frontman Paul Banks of the new album. Production of the album began in 2020 and for the first time, the band had to write their songs remotely. “We usually write live, but for the first time I’m not shouting over a drumkit,” Banks continues. “Daniel and I have a strong enough chemistry that I could picture how my voice would complement the scratch demos he emailed over. Then I could turn the guys down on my laptop, locate these colourful...
Olivia Rodrigo was already a two-time Grammy winner before she’d even had her own tour. Not the typical order of operations for artists, but Rodrigo is a new kind of pop star. With her Best New Artist gramophone in tow, the “drivers license” singer finally launched her first-ever headlining tour on Tuesday, April 5th at Portland, Oregon’s Theater of the Clouds — and our photographer Dan Garcia was there to capture it all. The “Sour Tour” kick-off concert featured an entire (if out of order) run-through of the album of the same name — not surprising as Sour is Rodrigo’s only LP. The setlist was padded with a pair of covers: Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated” (in honor of “the pop-punk princess herself,” as Rodrigo put it) and Veruca Salt’s “Seether.” Below, find a photo gallery of Olivia Ro...
