While last year’s COVID-compromised Grammy Awards hardly made for a ratings success story, it did feel like the Recording Academy stumbled onto something new and interesting with the more intimate, largely outdoor broadcast. The performers had never felt so close to the viewers, or to each other, resulting in some unexpectedly thrilling little moments of star overlap — and some uncomfortable ones, too, but even those couldn’t help but be a little charming. Even the winners were satisfying: four different artists splitting the Big Four categories (album of the year, record of the year, song of the year and best new artist), all of them vital contemporary artists, and all of them women, just three years after the disastrous “step up” incident. For a show that’d struggled a little to find its...
As it completes a full month at No. 1 in the U.K., Dave’s “Starlight” goes where no other rap song has gone before. The surprise release notches 6.8 million streams during the latest cycle, for its fourth week at the summit — a record for a U.K. rap song, the OCC reports. “Starlight” (via Neighbourhood Recordings) overcame a fast start from fellow British rapper Aitch, whose “Baby” (Capitol) featuring Ashanti led in the early stages of the chart week. In the end, “Starlight” leads an unchanged Top 5 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, with “Baby” coming in at No. 2. Almost two years after the game was originally announced, Games Workshop and Fatshark have now finally announced a release date for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Slated to arrive this September, the new title builds on Fatshark’s previous success on both Warhammer: Vermintide and Warhammer: Vermintide 2, adopting a similar four-player Left 4 Dead-styled gameplay where players will have to cooperate to fight through various levels against hordes of oncoming enemies. Unlike the previous two installments, however, Darktide will be based in the futuristic Warhammer 40K universe instead of the fantasy world of the Vermintide, so you’ll be using very different characters with new abilities and weapons. This time around, you and three friends will be fighting for the I...
THE DEAD DAISIES have released “Long Way To Go (Live From Daisyland)” which was recorded in November 2021 at the legendary Rock City music venue in Nottingham, England. It is the second release from THE DEAD DAISIES‘ “Live From Daisyland” series. THE DEAD DAISIES took the extremely enthusiastic and vocal crowd on a trip down memory lane with “Long Way To Go”, the classic hit from their 2016 album “Make Some Noise”. It’s been a crowd favorite and always in the setlist at live shows. The song took on new life with lead singer Glenn Hughes and the drive from the engine room with Tommy Clufetos on drums and the dynamic dueling guitars of Doug Aldrich and David Lowy. Lowy said: “It’s a hard-driving rock and roll track with ...
FOO FIGHTERS were honored in three categories in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 64th annual Grammy Awards, which is being held tonight (Sunday, April 3) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The band won “Best Rock Performance” for “Making A Fire”, “Best Rock Song” for “Waiting On A War” and “Best Rock Album” for “Medicine At Midnight”. FOO FIGHTERS were supposed to play at this year’s Grammy Awards but canceled the performance following the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. Although the FOO FIGHTERS will no longer appear at the event, the Grammy telecast will still pay tribute to Hawkins. CBS executive Jack Sussman told Variety: “We will honor his memory in some way. We want to figure out what is th...
Pop superstar Billie Eilish performed the title track from her album “Happier Than Ever” at this year’s Grammy Awards in a t-shirt paying tribute to the late FOO FIGHTERS drummer Taylor Hawkins. During her performance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Eilish wore a black t-shirt with an image of Hawkins emblazoned across the front. Last weekend, Eilish and her collaborator brother, Finneas O’Connell, discussed the passing of Hawkins with Access Hollywood‘s Scott Evans and Zuri Hall on the red carpet of the 94th annual Oscars ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Finneas said: “Taylor was such a legendary player. We were admirers of his work years before we got to meet him. And we only met him a handful of times — I wish we got to spend ...
Nas took to the stage at the 2022 Grammys to perform a thrilling medley of his songs “I Can,” “Made You Look,” “One Mic,” and “Rare.” Watch a replay below. After being introduced by host Trevor Noah as “your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper,” the 16-time Grammy nominee kicked off the performance with a young boy sitting on the stage, lip-syncing to the playground call-and-repeat of 2002’s “I Can.” From there, he segued seamlessly into a quick verse of 2002’s “Made You Look” before launching into a high-octane rendition of “One Mic” while backed by a full band. Finally, Nas fast-forwarded to the current day by treating the audience to “Rare,” an album cut from 2021’s King’s Disease II. During this year’s ceremony, the New York native added two additional nods to his litany of Grammy nomina...
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the Recording Academy at the 2022 Grammys, reminding the international audience that since Russia’s brutal and unprovoked invasion, “Our musicians wear body armor instead of tuxedos.” Before becoming the face of the Ukrainian resistance, Zelenskyy was a professional actor, writer, and comedian, and last week he pressed the Oscars to allow him to appear. Via The New York Times they balked, telling one of the organizers of the attempted cameo that, “They don’t want to overly politicize the show.” Where the Academy Awards showed a concern for politics, the Recording Academy came through. Zelenskyy appeared in a pre-taped video, speaking as fluently in English as he has often spoken in Ukrainian and Russian. He said, “The war. Wh...
Jon Batiste gave the type of triumphant performance one might expect from the most-nominated artist at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Watch the replay below. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert musical director turned up the party with a thrilling and colorful rendition of “FREEDOM” from his 2021 studio set We Are, beginning the number seated at the piano cloaked in a dramatic black cape. As the song gained momentum, he disrobed to reveal a sparkling turquoise suit, joyfully singing, “When I move my body just like this/ I don’t know why/ But I feel like freedom/ I hear a song that takes me back/ And I let go with so much freedom/ Free to live how I wanna live/ I’m gon’ get what I’m gonna get/ ‘Cause it’s my freedom” as he danced around stage. Eventually, the onstage dance party spilled out in...
The Pitch: “Meticulous.” “Chilling.” “Engrossing.” There are so many words that come to mind when sitting down with a new installment of Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spin-off which has somehow soared to a whole new tier of quality over the years. No spoilers (for fear of the Salamancas knocking at the door), but it can be said that the first two episodes of Season 6 keep this proud tradition going. As the show gears up for its last hurrah (the first seven episodes of the final season debut starting Monday, April 18th, with the second half of the season returning in July), every element of one of TV’s best-made shows is working hard to invest us in so many of the show’s biggest questions, including the most important one of all: How’s it going to end? Where Were We? Season 5 of Saul e...

By Deepa Lakshmin Every year, the Grammy Awards shine a light on up-and-coming talent worth keeping your eyes on (and ears open for). In the past decade, the Best New Artist gramophone has landed in the arms of Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Alessia Cara, and Sam Smith, to name a few. On Sunday (April 3), Sour prom queen Olivia Rodrigo joined this hall of fame shortly after opening the big night with a glowing performance of “Drivers License.” Meg and Dua appropriately presented her with the award, passing down the honor they enjoyed themselves. There’s no doubt that Rodrigo’s breakout single skyrocketed her music career, but Best New Artist isn’t about a single chart-topping hit. It’s as much an award as it is a promise that these artists’ music careers are just beginn...
