Sadie Jean never expected any of this. Her breakout hit “WYD Now?” boasts over 40 million streams on Spotify, a natural outgrowth of its organic viral beginnings on TikTok with views in the millions. The far reach has shown that the song’s aching piano sound and message of heartbreak have resonated deeply. She didn’t expect this from a lovelorn track she penned with her friends and fellow students Grace Enger and David Alexander on a creative weekend getaway. But that doesn’t mean she didn’t work hard to make it happen. “That was the craziest experience of my life,” she tells us in the premiere episode of MTV News Presents: Rising. As the 19-year-old tells it, ending up here feels wild, even if she’s been preparing for it for essentiall...

He explained that they’re on “the Ye side of the album,” with Pharrell Williams also contributing to the record. “My goal was to get the best out of both of them for what they like out of me artistically, they both ...
Flume has shared a new song called “Sirens” featuring guest vocals by Caroline Polachek. It’s the latest single from the Australian musician’s forthcoming LP Palaces. The track was co-written and produced by Danny L Harle. Check out the track below. Of the song’s lyrics, Polachek said in a statement: “I was living by myself in London, and it was the darkest time in the pandemic. I was really going through it, feeling so small, unable to control anything in the world, and the lyric ‘sirens’ was in reference to constant ambulances I was hearing.” “Sirens” is Palaces’ second single, after “Say Nothing,” featuring May-A. The record follows the Grammy-nominated mixtape Hi This Is Flume and gets released on May 20. Caroline Polachek recently pulled out of her opening slot on Dua Lipa’s tour afte...
Sir Paul McCartney has earned the right to ask for whatever he likes, and today what he would like is for US Starbucks customers to pay less for plant based milks. McCartney is perhaps the world’s most famous vegetarian, and he has long used his platform to agitate for animal rights. He partnered with PETA to address the cost for non-dairy milk products in a letter to Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson, who retires April 4th. “It recently came to my attention that Starbucks in the USA has an extra charge for plant based milks as opposed to cow’s milk,” Macca wrote. “I must say this surprised me as I understand that in other countries like UK and India, there is the same charge for both types of milk and I would like to politely request that you consider this policy also in Starbucks USA.” Adverti...
Flume has teamed up with Caroline Polachek today on the new single “Sirens,” the latest preview of the Australian electronic artist’s forthcoming album Palaces. Co-written and co-produced with Polachek’s frequent collaborator Danny L Harle, this marks the longtime pals’ first musical release together. “Sirens” juxtaposes Polachek’s delicate, enchanting vocals with titillating industrial production. The track’s lyrics were inspired by Polachek’s stint living in London at the height of the pandemic, feeling helpless as blaring ambulance horns constantly zoomed past her street: “If I could/ With just a sigh/ I’d stop the tide/ Of siren cries,” she chants over Flume’s clanging beat. “Caroline and I had known each other for years, but she’d just moved to LA and we bumped into each other living ...
Will Smith was asked to leave Sunday’s Academy Awards after slapping Chris Rock, but he refused. The revelation came in a new statement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science’s Board of Governors, who met on Monday and voted to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Smith. “Mr. Smith’s actions at the 94th Oscars were a deeply shocking, traumatic event to witness in-person and on television,” the statement reads. “Mr. Rock, we apologize to you for what you experienced on our stage and thank you for your resilience in that moment. We also apologize to our nominees, guests and viewers for what transpired during what should have been a celebratory event.” Advertisement Related Video “Things unfolded in a way we could not have anticipate,” the statement continues. “While we woul...
The Pitch: The first trailer for Morbius, the newest effort by Sony Pictures to hold onto the Marvel characters to which it still owns the rights, originally premiered in January 2020, in anticipation of its planned July 2020 premiere. That premiere didn’t happen for, y’know, reasons, but in the literal years since, new trailers for the film have continued to appear online and in theaters, with one of them buttoned by a reasonably funny joke: Its central character, in full monster face, growling “I… am… Venom!” at a thug, then abruptly shifting to a smile to say, “I’m just kidding! Dr. Michael Morbius, at your service.” That moment didn’t just name-drop a previous Sony/Marvel collaboration, but showcased a clever reversal on expectations, not to mention star Jared Leto doling out some very...
Flume has dropped the next breadcrumb on the trail to Palaces, his long-awaited third studio album. After revealing the album via its hypnotic lead single, “Say Nothing” (with MAY-A), he’s now joined forces with indie pop songstress Caroline Polachek for a haunting cut called “Sirens.” The track was co-written and produced by Danny L Harle, whose single “On A Mountain” received a glitchy remix from Flume back in August 2021. If the second single from Palaces is any indication, Flume is hellbent on the growth of his artistry. While the celestial “Sirens” has hints of his fluttery future bass sound of yesteryear, it’s emblematic of another leap forward into new sonic territory for the Grammy-winning electronic music virtuo...
With great mustache comes great power—and DJ Susan has it in droves. Based in San Diego, Susan made a cross-country flight last week to immerse himself in the hedonism of Miami Music Week, a pilgrimage he takes annually. And he made his presence felt. But that wasn’t by design, as if he concocted some kind of masterplan to kick up dust in the name of fame like a hellbent TikToker. It’s just in his nature. In many ways, the gregarious Susan was emblematic of the triumphant ethos of the return of dance music in Miami after a brutal pandemic. If his unbridled personality didn’t pull you in like a magnet to a fridge, it was his giant bear-hugs. DJ Susan (via Instagram) While hundreds of thousands of people flock to Miami for the week’s pièce de résistance, Ultra Music Festival, the city’s vari...
