Ex-SEPULTURA Drummer IGOR CAVALERA: How BLACK SABBATH’s BILL WARD Inspired Me To Play Drums

In a new “Fan First” interview with Revolver magazine, former SEPULTURA drummer Igor “Iggor” Cavalera was asked what the first musician was that he put on a pedestal. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I think the first one, and still one of my favorites to this day, is Bill Ward from BLACK SABBATH.” Regarding how he first discovered SABBATH, he said: “It’s a funny story, because my father had a bunch of records, and later, me and Max [Igor’s brother and former SEPULTURA frontman], we were going through his collection and we found the first SABBATH record in the middle of it. But that was after we were already into rock music — not so much metal, but more rock. And then, of course, SABBATH became one of those bands that...

Diabolical – DESTRUCTION

RATING: 7.5/10 DESTRUCTION have been a thrashing machine for a whopping 40 years, and have been on a militant rampage, regularly releasing albums since their inception. That’s not including the extended period of limited recordings during the nineties, essentially the time frame that DESTRUCTION‘s only remaining original member, vocalist and bassist Schmier, was not a part of the band. But the hands of time have not weighed Schmier down nor held him back. He’s been marching forward with a talented group of musicians who have been with him for a handful of years, and the quartet has lived up to DESTRUCTION‘s great name with “Diabolical” an utterly relentless album. Not unlike their fellow, revered thrash metal countrymen SODOM and KREATOR, DESTRUCTION had...

I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.” Parton is one of 17 artists nominated for the Rock Hall class of 2022, along with Eminem, Lionel Richie, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, JUDAS PRIEST and Beck, among others. Ballots are cast by an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists — including previous inductees — historians, music industry members and critics. Factors considered by voters conside...

Camp Cope Triumphantly Weather The Storm

By Matt Mitchell Six years after ascending beyond Victoria, Australia’s Footscray Station scene and releasing their fearless, eponymous debut, Camp Cope members Georgia Maq, Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich, and Sarah “Thomo” Thompson are watching the world give them the long-overdue respect they deserve. A week before I met with the Melbourne rock trio over Zoom, they released their second collaboration with local radio station Triple J. It fared much better among audiences, especially on social media, than their previous effort in late 2016; YouTube viewers, often men, rushed to the comments to disavow the then relatively new band’s performance and artistry. “It was our first year of being a band and people were so brutal,” Hellmrich says on our video call. “I feel like, if we were boys and were a p...
