Kamaal Williams Embodies the Sound of the London Underground

“Being a musician or instrumentalist is a dying art in a way.” Do you want to further pursue not just graffiti, but art, in the traditional sense, that would one day be shown in a gallery setting? Definitely. I’m really doing that now. I feel like they’re the same thing to me. I do different things, sometimes it’s in the form of music, sometimes it’ll manifest in the form of a canvas or video or just a conversation. It’s just me — it’s a life thing. Everything I do in life is through the lens of art. I’ve always had that art influence from my parents, who were both architects. For me, life is constantly through the lens of art. Music is art. When I go to a museum or exhibition, that’s where I feel like, ‘okay, this feels like art to me.’ But when I log onto Spotify…do you know what I mean?...

Beyonce Basically Queen of ‘Jeopardy’ After ‘Single Ladies’ Lyrics Used in 3 Categories

It’s one of the most iconic lyrics (and hand gestures) of the early 2000s and on Thursday night (March 24) it popped up more than once on Jeopardy. For starters, three adjacent categories on the episode were titled “If You Liked It,” “Then You Should Have” and “Put a ‘Ring’ On It,” an obvious reference that even a junior member of the Beyhive would realize pointed to Beyoncé‘s beloved 2008 smash “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” Explore See latest videos, charts and news And while just one of the clues in the category was about Bey, the night’s big winner, Univ. of Maryland student Ciara Donegan, had no problem coming up with a quick answer to the “If You Liked It” clue that read “Appropriately, for the board, this singer was the people’s choice as the top animated movie star of 2019 for...

As Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas continues to double down on his anti-transgender rhetoric, including calling on state officials to investigate supportive parents of transgender children for “child abuse,” Billboard is speaking with transgender artists in Texas about the ongoing fallout throughout the state. Below, Houston rapper Uncle Tino shares his story.  For 27-year-old rapper Santino Alcoser, being a trans man is an important part of his identity as a recording artist. It’s just not the entirety of his identity. “I’m very much of the mindset that I can prove myself as an artist, period,” he says over a Zoom call with Billboard. “Whether or not I’m queer or trans has nothing to do with that.” Performing under the name Uncle Tino, Alcoser has clawed his w...

ZZ TOP Releases ‘Brown Sugar’ From ‘Raw’ Live Album

ZZ TOP has reached back to its very early days with the first track to be released from their forthcoming “Raw” album, out July 22 from Shelter Records through BMG. “Brown Sugar” was a key cut on the very appropriately titled ZZ TOP‘s first album that was released in January of 1971. Available today, “Brown Sugar” is the opening track on “Raw”, which itself is an homage to the band’s early days. ZZ TOP‘s “Brown Sugar”, penned by Billy Gibbons, should not be mistaken for THE ROLLING STONES song of the same title, the latter of which was actually released three months after ZZ TOP‘s first album. “Raw” was recorded and filmed for the Grammy-nominated Netflix documentary “That Little Ol’...
