The Truth Came Out On Jersey Shore — Thanks To An Actual Lie Detector

Just when you think nothing can top murder mysteries and tantric sex therapy sessions, DJ Pauly D pulled off the biggest surprise of them all on the last night of the latest family vacation. Tonight’s Jersey Shore: Family Vacation season finale kicked off with “the dumbest race” in the history of guido sports — guidos running in swim fins, you can imagine the rest — and culminated with the arrival of one rather shocking note on Mike’s doorstep. No, not that note… more on that one later. Turns out that Pauly (who conveniently peaced out early) took it upon himself to book fun activity lie detector tests for the gang’s last night in the Banana Republic Florida Keys. Naturally, Mike (and his positive ...

Keshi Is Sounding His Own Arrival Horn

By Sarina Bhutani With over a billion streams on Spotify, over a million followers on Instagram, and an already sold-out international tour on the horizon, Keshi has all the characteristics of a star. But as the 27-year-old settles into a late-night Zoom call, dressed casually in a red hoodie and complementary blue Yankees cap, he seems more like the boy next door than music’s next big thing. Even on the brink of a breakthrough, his demeanor is confident yet somehow gentle, much like his viral music. Before he was Keshi, he was Casey Luong, a son born to two Vietnamese immigrants in a suburb of Houston, Texas. That’s why, with his debut album Gabriel (out today, March 25), Keshi is living his own American dream. Recorded between Los Angeles and Houston over seven months, the 12-track recor...

15 Minute Live Performances: The Wanderers

Australia has a rich history of blessing the rest of the world with terrific bands. The Wanderers could be the latest band to follow in that tradition. The band dazzled at several SXSW showcase events last week, showing audiences in Austin what they’re fully capable of when armed and operated. Don’t say we didn’t tell you because we did! A few weeks ago, we caught up with the band’s Dusty Lee Stephensen in our A Day in the Life feature. He filled us in on what you will hopefully know in due time. “Your favorite albums from Dad’s record collection, that you only listen to while he’s out because you don’t want him to know you think it’s cool,” Stephenson said It’s a bit of everything really. Funk, soul, neo-soul, disco, fuzzy guitars, sax lines, harmonies… it’s all the shit we like to hear o...

Bop Shop: Songs From Soccer Mommy, Florence + The Machine, Cravity, And More

In the age of K-pop girl-crush concepts galore, Red Velvet’s regal return is a breath of fresh air. The first single off the group’s new EP, The ReVe Festival 2022, “Feel My Rhythm,” is a bright and airy dance-pop track that travels back in time. Sampling Bach’s “Air on the G String,” combines elegant tropes of the past with innovative contemporary electronics to create a genre completely their own. And the accompanying video lives up to the hype. Aesthetically, it is as enchanting as it is stimulating, depicting multiple brightly colored scenes in contrast with classical silhouettes reminiscent of Impressionist paintings come to life. With each comeback, the ladies of Red Velvet work diligently to solidify their standing as K-pop royalty. —Sarina Bhutani You Deserve to Make Money Even Whe...

Summer Walker and SZA Tap Cardi B for “No Love (Extended Version)”

Summer Walker and SZA have teamed up with Cardi B for an extended version of Walker’s “No Love.” Alongside the remixed single is a new music video that showcases that matches the sultry cadence of the single. The video opens with Summer Walker and Cardi B sitting on a floating canopy bed in the sky surrounded by white and pink clouds. Matching the soft and ethereal opening are Cardi B’s smooth vocals, which is a side fans do not often see from the New York City-born rapper. As the three women carry out parts of the song, the music video is complete with an array of visuals that channels their fire, water and air zodiac signs. The range of eye-catching moments features SZA and Summer Walker pole dancing atop a field of flowers, the two playing tennis in the middle of the ocean, a group danc...

Every Quentin Tarantino Movie Ranked from Worst to Best

Welcome to Dissected, where we disassemble a band’s catalog, a director’s filmography, or some other critical pop-culture collection in the abstract. It’s exact science by way of a few beers. The time, we enter the quirky, warmhearted world of Wes Anderson. This article was originally published in 2018 and has been updated. It’s fun to look back at Quentin Tarantino’s trajectory over the course of 20-plus years helming films. Once hailed as the video store punk with a proclivity for pop culture, Tarantino was the darling of Sundance in 1992 and quickly made a name for himself. He was the motor-mouth with a subversive wit, killer soundtracks, and a love for comics, rockabilly, and creative uses of camp, and he spawned a whole lot of junky crime capers, not to mention a ton of snarky banter ...

We’re looking forward to the future and seeing you all again.” Following The Gaslight Anthem’s initial hiatus in 2015, Fallon and co. temporarily revived the band in 2018 to embark on a brief tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of their album The ’59 Sound. It seems the band had initially considered a similar anniversary tour around their album Handwritten, but are now opting for something entirely new. Advertisement Related Video Earlier this year...

Soul Glo Turn In a Landmark Hardcore Album with the Political and Personal Diaspora Problems: Review + Stream

In the roiling summer heat of 2021, Philadelphia hardcore act Soul Glo took to their practice space to record the 12 songs that would form Diaspora Problems. The material was conceptualized over a five-year period and harnessed in true punk fashion, under tumultuous and budget-conscious conditions. In many ways, Soul Glo have followed the tried-and-true punk trajectory, gradually building a fanbase via touring, DIY releases, and EPs. It’s culminated with the band inking a deal with storied punk label Epitaph Records, home to legends such as Bad Religion, Rancid, Social Distortion, and many more. But Soul Glo are far from your average hardcore band. With predominantly Black band members, the band is inherently distinguished among a scene long dominated by whiteness — a topic Pierce Jordan d...

Willie Nelson Had Trouble Voting in Texas Primary Due to New Voter Suppression Law

Not even a superstar like Willie Nelson was spared from the effects of Texas’ new restrictive voting law. According to reporting by the Associated Press, the iconic singer and his wife had particular difficulty obtaining absentee ballots in order to vote in the state’s primary election earlier this month, which took place on March 1st. Nelson’s wife, Annie D’Angelo-Nelson, told the Austin American-Statesman that she and her husband had to apply for the ballots twice, with their first attempt being rejected because of the new law’s stringent identification requirements. Thankfully, the couple was able to work through the mix-up and apply again, but D’Angelo-Nelson commented that the possibility of other voters with less determination and understanding of the absentee requirements being reje...
