Third Man Records have revealed plans to issue Prince’s previously unreleased 1986 album Camille. “We’re finally going to put it out,” label co-founder Ben Blackwell told Mojo. “Prince’s people agreed – almost too easy.” The late musician originally planned on dropping the LP under his pseudonym Camille, a feminine alter-ego he embodied through pitched-up vocals and androgynous fashion, but the album was shelved shortly after getting a test pressing. Camille includes eight tracks in total, all of which have been officially released—although hard to track down, to some extent—over the years. “Housequake,” “Strange Relationship,” and “If I Was Your Girlfriend” appear on Sign o’ the Times; “Feel U Up” is the B-side to Batman single “Partyman;” “Shockadelica” is the B-side to 1987 single “If I...
When Jack White announced the many artists opening for him on his forthcoming tour today, the long list of supporting acts included one particularly exciting name: a reunited Be Your Own Pet. The Jemina Pearl-fronted Nashville punk band, notorious for putting on wild shows in the ’00s, broke up in 2008 after releasing two albums: their self-titled LP in 2006 and its 2008 follow-up Get Awkward. The band will perform on April 38 and 30 at his shows in Atlanta and their hometown of Nashville, respectively. “I’ve been really blown away by the response today, to be honest,” Pearl said over the phone from her home in Nashville after the news was shared. “I wasn’t sure if people would give a shit. I’ve had so many people like reaching out to me—I feel like it’s my birthday or something.” Sa...

Make a wish, because Selena Gomez is putting a Latinx spin on the John Hughes classic Sixteen Candles. Together with collaborators Tanya Saracho and Gabriela Revilla Lugo, the pop star is developing a new half-hour sitcom titled 15 Candles, which will take a page from the 1984 coming-of-age movie starring Molly Ringwald. According to Variety, the comedy series “will follow four young Latinas in high school, navigating feelings of invisibility while exploring what it means to leave childhood behind as quinceañera season approaches.” Gomez will serve as executive producer on the project, which is headed to NBC streamer Peacock, while Saracho and Lugo are both expected to write and executive produce. South by Southwest takes over Austin, Texas, every year, intertwining film, music and interactive media — but how did it become one of the arts’ biggest festivals? The inaugural SXSW took place in 1987 as an extension of an already-existing New York City festival. When those plans fell through, Ronald Swenson of the Austin Chronicle — who is now the CEO of SXSW — decided to co-organize it as a local music festival. SXSW has 15 tracks of programming in various formats, including summits, keynotes, panels, workshops, podcasts and more. “It would be like if every creative person in the world went on spring break together in Austin, Texas,” Brian Hobbs, SXSW programming manager, tells Billboard‘s Tetris Kelly. With inspiring speakers, major film screenings and headline-making performances...

Ed Sheeran is returning to the scene of his all-time box-office blockbuster — Australia and New Zealand. The British singer and songwriter sets his + – = ÷ x Tour (pronounced The Mathematics Tour), which will see him fill stadiums across both countries next February and March. Scheduled to kick off Feb. 2, 2023 at Sky Stadium in Wellington, NZ, the jaunt is Sheeran’s first here since the 2018 Divide Tour, during which he destroyed the old mark for the highest-selling domestic tour in history. Divide shifted 1,006,387 tickets across Australia and New Zealand, according to Frontier Touring, bettering the 950,000 tickets Dire Straits sold for a single tour in the late ‘80s. That’s according to the independent concerts giant which produced the Divide tour, and is behind the upcoming shows. Exp...
