Riot Games has invested in its collaborator, Paris-based 3D animation studio Fortiche Production. Under the supervision of Riot Games, the French studio produced 2021’s critically acclaimed League of Legends spin-off series, Arcane. The show’s viewership, which counts both LoL fans and those who have never played the game, even set the record as Netflix‘s highest-rated series within a week of premiering on the streamer. Now, Riot Games has made an equity investment in Fortiche, giving it a “significant” but non-controlling stake in the studio. Two of Riot Games’ own, Chief Content Officer Brian Wright and Director of Corporate Development Brendan Mulligan, have joined Fortiche’s board of directors. Aside from its board, Fortiche will still remain “operationally independent” from Riot. “For...
Finnish cello rockers APOCALYPTICA will release a new single, “I’ll Get Through It”, this coming Friday, March 18. The track will feature guest appearances by legendary BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler and singer Franky Perez, who had recorded and toured with APOCALYPTICA in the past. 2015’s “Shadowmaker” was APOCALYPTICA‘s first album to feature just one singer — Perez — instead of guest collaborators. The disc was recorded with Grammy Award-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, DEFTONES, MASTODON). Prior to enlisting Perez, who will accompany APOCALYPTICA on the band’s 2022 North American tour, the group released eight albums that melded the classically trained cello mastery of the three core bandmembers with the harder elemen...

New Jersey melodic thrash-metal warriors GOD FORBID will perform at this year’s Blue Ridge Rock Festival, set to take place September 8-11 at the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia. The show will mark GOD FORBID‘s first live appearance in over nine years. GOD FORBID guitarist/vocalist Doc Coyle commented: “I wasn’t sure that this would ever happen, but I can’t tell you how psyched I am to announce that GOD FORBID is reuniting to play this year’s Blue Ridge Rock Festival. These are my brothers, and I can’t wait to share this with the fans who’ve been waiting.” GOD FORBID officially called it quits in August 2013 following Doc‘s departure. Last December, Doc told “The Jasta Show” about the possibility of a...
HELMET has canceled its previously announced European tour which was scheduled to take place between April 3 and May 21. Earlier today (Monday, March 14), HELMET frontman Page Hamilton released the following statement regarding the matter: “Hey everyone, we were so looking forward to returning to Europe and getting back out on the road this Spring. After the past 2 1/2 years of Covid crushing live music we’d started rehearsals and even played 2 shows in LA. Unfortunately we are forced to cancel our 2022 European Tour due to several circumstances beyond our control (the world is still not back to normal) and for a band member to deal with a serious but non life threatening health issue. “We would like to sincerely apologize to all our fans who have reached out to us to mak...

By Rashad D. Grove In today’s R&B landscape, Lucky Daye has emerged as a torchbearer of the genre’s rich history while simultaneously curating music that defies labels. Since his debut Painted was released in 2019, the multiple Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter has been redefining modern R&B through, as he says, “a futuristic sci-fi world shaped by the inspiration of Afrofuturism.” In other words, with his evocative songwriting and penchant for creating mesmerizing melodies, Daye is intent on taking his listeners back to the future. This unique motif is what he believes makes him stand out amongst his peers. “I think I bring individuality to the music industry. I’m not trying to fall into a mode of what everyone thinks an R&B artist should be,” Daye said to MTV News over...
Jack White has issued a new open letter and video calling on major labels to build their own vinyl record pressing plants. “At least once a week, without fail, someone will reach out asking me to help expedite their vinyl record manufacturing,” writes White to begin his letter. “It’s a natural thought… knowing that I own a pressing plant and have my own record label, “if anyone could help, it’s this guy!” As the founder of Third Man Records, White has become one of the leading advocates for and producers of vinyl records. Over the years, several major artists — including JAY-Z and Dave Chappelle — have partnered with Third Man to press their releases on vinyl. The streaming wars continue to escalate as plans to consolidate Discovery+ and HBO Max into one streaming platform were announced today (March 14th). As reported by Variety, Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels has revealed that the two company’s flagship apps will initially be offered as a bundle with the goal of integrating them into a single service “in several months.” “One of the most important items here is that we believe in a combined product as opposed to a bundle,” Wiedenfels said at the Deutsche Bank 30th Annual Media, Internet & Telecom Conference. “The question is, in order to get to that point and do it in a way that’s actually a great user experience for our subscribers, that’s going to take some time. Again, that’s nothing that’s going to happen in weeks — hopefully not in y...
