IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson has wished his bandmate Steve Harris a happy 66th birthday. During the question-and-answer portion of his March 12 spoken-word show at the House Of Blues in Las Vegas, Nevada, Bruce was asked by a couple of different audience members if he had wished Steve a happy birthday earlier that day. He then proceeded to lead the crowd through a rendition of “Happy Birthday” in honor of the founding MAIDEN bassist, who formed the band in 1975. Since its inception nearly five decades ago, MAIDEN led the wave of British heavy metal music and became a global institution. Over the course of 47 years, the band has come to embody a spirit of fearless creative independence, ferocious dedication to fans, and a cheerful indifference to critics. IRON MAIDEN has b...

HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Ronald Martinez / Getty The Kanye West Is Reckless on Social Media Tour is chugging right along with no end in sight. This time, Ye responded to recent criticism DL Hughley sent his way by threatening the Kings Of Comedy comedian. In a recent interview with DJ Vlad, Hughley likened Ye’s treatment of Kim Kardashian, at least in social media, to that of a stalker, or a domestic abuser if we’re keeping it a bean. Clearly, Ye wasn’t too happy about the comparison. Taking to his preferred method of communication, Instagram, Ye posted the old clip of DL Hughley fainting on stage and added some vitriol to the caption (which also included a stray shot at Charlamagne Tha God. “We gone stop letting practicing drug addicts be used by leftist to Willie Lynch ou...

Thom Yorke Releases New Solo Song “5.17”: Listen

Thom Yorke has shared a new solo song called “5.17.” Apple Music lists a second Yorke single titled “That’s How Horses Are” as coming out on April 2. Both songs were written for the British drama series Peaky Blinders. Check out “5.17” below. Last month, Peaky Blinders director Anthony Byrne revealed that Yorke and Jonny Greenwood contributed original music for the sixth and final season of the TV show. “I’m over the moon about all of that,” Byrne told NME. “The music has always been really important historically, and I was really keen to bring a dramatic score into it.” Yorke released his most recent solo album, ANIMA, in 2019 and his debut film score for Luca Guadagnino’s Suspiria remake in 2018. In recent months, he’s stayed busy with his BBC Radio 6 music mix, remixing MF DOOM’s “Gazzi...

Thom Yorke Surprise-Releases New Song ‘5.17’

Thom Yorke has been focusing efforts on his Radiohead side project The Smile, which made it that much more surprising when he released a new solo track called “5.17” without warning this morning. Though it’s unclear why the song came out today, it may not be a coincidence that its arrival coincides with the third episode of Peaky Blinders’ sixth season — Yorke and his bandmate Jonny Greenwood reportedly contributed music to the show. “Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood contributed some original stuff,” Peaky Blinders director Anthony Byrne previously told NME. “I’m over the moon about all of that. The music has always been really important historically, and I was really keen to bring a dramatic score into it. We’re using that much more in this season. It’s a much ...

Just Like Evan: Our 1993 Lemonheads Cover Story

This article originally appeared in the April 1993 issue of SPIN. In honor of The Lemonheads’ It’s a Shame About Ray turning 30 and the band’s set at our SXSW event, we’ve republished it here. IT’S FAST APPROACHING 5:00 A.M. IN THE WANE OF A BREEZY AUSTRALIAN SUMMER NIGHT, and Evan Dando is sitting on the ninth-floor balcony of my Sydney hotel room obliging a record company publicist in New York with a phone interview. Bored for the first time during the course of this long evening, I dig an old interview tape from my bag and stick it into my cassette player. “Hey, talk to Mark from SPIN a second,” Dando tells the caller, as he becomes interested in the tape. The singer-songwriter-guitarist presses the Walkman to his ear, as the Atlantic rep, who is calling from about 10,000 miles awa...

During the question-and-answer portion of his March 3 spoken-word show at at Palace Of Fine Arts in San Francisco, California, IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson was asked if BLACK SABBATH can exist without its founding drummer Bill Ward. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I’m a massive lover of Bill Ward‘s drumming style; I think it’s inspired. ‘Cause he’s not really a rock drummer; he’s more like a jazz drummer playing rock. And I love that kind of style; it’s kind of like drums that kind of wander around the rhythm and everything else. But he’s on it; he’s brilliant. And I met him. He’s a lovely bloke as well. Slightly mad, but very nice. But then aren’t we all? All of us are on the madness spectrum...
