When the musical Bat-Signal appears, the eyes of Gotham turn to electronic music: Alesso, Peggy Gou, Baauer and more are all featured on the soundtrack for The Batman, now in theaters. In fact, even the film’s lead, Robert Pattinson, tried his hand at crafting ambient tracks during downtime on set—while wearing his Batsuit, no less. The music of Kevin Saunderson, Patrick Topping and Corvad, as well as of icons like Nirvana, Dean Martin and Al Martino, fills in the gaps where Pattinson’s music quite didn’t make the cut. “As a die hard [sic] Batman fan I can’t believe I have a song in the new movie,” added Alesso, who contributed “DARK” to the film. For WHIPPED CREAM, it’s always been about bangers. “Light of Mine”? Banger. “So Thick”? Banger. With a track record like this, it’s no surprise that her latest single, “CRY,” is also—well, you get it. A mind-bending fusion of midtempo, electronica and hyper-house, “CRY” is out now via Monstercat. Kicking off with eerie chords and haunting vocals, “CRY” quickly sets the scene for a tale that twists and turns with tension. “You won’t hear me cry,” its lyrics chant. An eerie bassline slowly creeps under the surface until the track’s cathartic drop, akin to a pitch black soundscape with menacing sound design. “It’s about having no tears, words, or energy left to give...

The album strives to go back to the band’s roots of making stripped-down blues-rock music in basements in Ohio. “That’s always been the beauty of the thing Pat and I d...
For over a month, Florence + The Machine has slowly released songs with the anticipation that her first new album in years would be on the way. On Thursday, Welch finally revealed the details for Dance Fever, and shared another one of its tracks, “My Love.” [embedded content][embedded content] The fifth studio record by the rock vocalist is set to release May 13. Canadian post-hardcore band ALEXISONFIRE will release “Otherness”, its first full-length album in over 13 years, on June 24 via Dine Alone Records. The LP features 10 new tracks, including the explosive first single “Sweet Dreams Of Otherness”, which can be streamed below. “Otherness” was produced by ALEXISONFIRE and mixed by punk stalwart Jonah Falco (FUCKED UP, CAREER SUICIDE). Says vocalist George Pettit: “This song was largely Dallas‘s [Green, vocals/rhythm guitar] brainchild, but over the course of writing this record, it became more of a mission statement for the band. It’s kind of about performance and embracing a newfound confidence in a state of peculiarity.” Pre-orders for physical variants are available Friday, March 11...

Like many 40-year-olds who engage with social media only when necessary, MGMT co-founder Ben Goldwasser doesn’t have a TikTok account. So when the title track of the band’s 2018 album, Little Dark Age, suddenly began appearing in thousands of videos on the platform in the first pandemic summer of 2020, he had to rely on his wife and friends to clue him in on the out-of-nowhere phenomenon. “It was surprising to me to even have our song be on TikTok at all, and then it was like, ‘Well, how big is this?’” Goldwasser tells SPIN by phone. “I don’t even know what a big TikTok song is or what that means.” In this case, “big” doesn’t really do justice to what’s been going on with “Little Dark Age” on TikTok, where users have made more than 5.5 million videos that weave the song int...
