Sharon Van Etten is back with her second release of the year, “Used to It.” The singer-songwriter originally wrote the track after being asked to help create a score for Baby God, an HBO documentary about a fertility specialist who impregnates women with his own sperm. “Ultimately, the film team changed their musical direction, but I found myself welcomely challenged to the idea of writing a song about the concept of family, connection through blood, nature vs nurture, while attempting to incorporate ideas of love and the complexities of science and technology,” she explained in a statement. “I am grateful for this song to be able to have a new life, relating more to the times we have all been living through and redefining the meaning of this song by focusing on the positives of seeking co...
Given a few beats to think it over, Erin Rae — whose enchanting second solo album, Lighten Up is out now — concludes that she is, in fact, a happy person. Based on her lilting voice and the gentle smile on her new record’s cover, it seems easy to accept that at face value. Folky and folksy, her pleasant style pervades all 12 tracks, along with the alluring and disarming production from Jonathan Wilson that adds a feel of psychedelia. And it’s helpful, perhaps therapeutic, to consider the question, as she notes during a smiling and easygoing Zoom call with SPIN. Because her songs offer a message that “would be so much heavier if the music also conveyed that.” Rae knows better to just dump music and perform into a personal blend of therapy. “I definitely need other therapy,” she says, laughi...
This Friday, March 5, marks the 100th anniversary of the German silent horror film Nosferatu. An early example of German Expressionism, the film was directed by F.W. Murnau, who helmed other early cinematic masterpieces such as Sunrise (1927) and City Girl (1930), and starred Max Schreck as a Transylvanian vampire named Count Orlok. Orlok is looking for new digs, which brings estate agent Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) his way. Hutter has heard stories of the mysterious Orlok, mostly from locals who cower at the mere mention of the Count’s name. Paying no mind, Hutter makes his way to Orlok’s castle and is invited to stay for dinner. Hey, can’t beat a free meal! While dining, Hutter cuts his thumb with a steak knife and begins to bleed profusely. Like any good host, Orlok offers to ...
A Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG player has just taken to Twitter to share a quick fix for bent trading cards. Trading card game players who live in humid or dry areas may notice the bending of their cards in different directions if their collection is not stored in an airtight container. While this technique does not fix creased cards, it does restore warped cards back to their original flat form. Tetora instructs TCG players with bent cards to first place a soaked tissue or sponge in a small jar then place that jar into a Tupperware container. Next, while making sure you do not get the cards wet, place the cards in the same container, and close the lid. After a day or two, the cards will be restored. For cards that are inversely bent, simply replace the wet paper with a desiccant bag. 山反りのカードを私は...
FromSoftware‘s highly anticipated title Elden Ring has finally launched last week, and with such an expansive game, the studio has offered 10 different player classes for you to choose from. Luckily for those approaching it for the first time, IGN has now broken down all 10 classes for you. In a video spanning almost seven minutes long, the popular gaming outlet introduces all 10 classes Elden Ring has to offer, including the Hero, Bandit, Astrologer, Warrior, Prisoner, Confessor, Wretch, Vagabond, Prophet and Samurai. The video includes short gameplay clips of the different classes and brief introductions of what each of them entails, so you’ll be able to make a more informed decision when you create your own character in the game. Of course, character selection is just one face...
If you’re a fan of CD Projekt Red‘s 2015 hit The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt but have always wondered how the game would play in a first-person mode, you’re now in luck. Seven years after the game first launched, a modder by the username “crthdr” has now created a mod for the PC version of the game that’ll allow players to experience the game in first person, bringing a whole new level of immersion to Geralt’s monster-slaying adventures. As you’ll see in the video above — uploaded by YouTuber brandonzxcv — the Gervant First Person mod lets you experience almost everything in the game in the new perspective, including fighting monsters, riding your horse, and even paddling on a boat. Cut scenes will still be in third-person, however, and according to the creator the mod might not work as well...
In the spirit of Post First, Ask Questions Later, Joe Rogan shared an image of a purported CNN article that showed actor Steven Seagal fighting with Russian Special Forces against Ukraine. After a couple of hours and more than a little mockery Rogan deleted the post, admitting that he’d fallen for a photoshop. The easily avoidable flub began with Rogan posting an image of an article, rather than a link to an article, which is usually a red flag on social media. Besides that, the run-on sentence in the impersonation would have been thrown out of any reputable English 101 class: “Intelligence agencies around the world have spotted American actor Steven Seagal among Russian special forces positioned around the outskirts of Gostomel airfield near Kyiv captured by Russian airborne troops,” it r...

Eddie Vedder came down with COVID-19 earlier this year, and as he explained during his concert in Los Angeles on February 25th, his bout with the novel coronavirus was “pretty serious.” Fan footage captured Vedder addressing the crowd at the YouTube Theater. “I got the COVID right before we were supposed to start practicing, probably five or six weeks ago, and I literally saw my life flash in front of my eyes,” he said. He went on to explain that he’d “done some very good things for my body and I’ve also had a lot of fun, and I’ve done some things that would be termed some kind of abuse,” he laughed. “I won’t get into the details. Just use your imagination.” He added, “It felt pretty serious. To get through that and be back in a room like this facing this many people… It’s been a gift...
Foals have revealed the release date and tracklist of their next album: Life Is Yours, the British rockers’ sevneth LP, is due out June 17th, 2022 via ADA/Warner UK Ltd. Life Is Yours follows Foals’ previous release, 2019 Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost, Part 1 and Part 2. It also marks the first Foals album as a trio, following last year’s departure of longtime keyboardist Edwin Congreave. According to a press release, Life Is Yours serves as a “life-affirming celebration as the world is reunited,” indicated by some of the band’s punchiest, most rambunctious music yet. “We wanted to refocus and do something that shared a DNA throughout the songs: a physicality, a danceability, and with energy and joyousness,” vocalist Yannis Philippakis said in a statement. “It’s def...
