Hey, not everyone pops out of the womb a star. Grace Franklin, the 15-year-old granddaughter of Aretha Franklin, appeared on American Idol on Sunday (February 27th), but didn’t quite have the same chops as her mythological elder to allow her to advance to the singing program. “I feel like people expect me to sing exactly like her, but I am my own artist and I have my own voice,” the young Franklin said in a pre-recorded clip prior to her audition. Unfortunately, judges Lionel Ritchie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan weren’t exactly impressed with the voice she offered. Franklin opened her audition with a Lauryn Hill-inspired cover of Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly,” but the performance proved more one-dimensional than the soulful original. “It was all just a little sleepy and subdued to me,...
After various reports that Twisted Sister‘s 1984 hit “We’re Not Gonna Take It” was being used as a rallying cry by Ukrainians over the weekend, the band’s leader Dee Snider — who is part Ukrainian — says that he couldn’t be prouder. “I absolutely approve of Ukrainians using ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ as their battle cry,” Snider wrote in a tweet. “My grandfather was Ukrainian before it was swallowed up by the USSR after WW2. This can’t happen to these people again! #FUCKRUSSIA.” Prior to Snider’s endorsement, the 1984 track off the heavy metal band’s third album, Stay Hungry, was being used as a rallying cry following Russian Vladimir Putin’s order for an attack on Ukraine, which has resulted in nearly 200 deaths so far. Snider took to Twitter to boast his support, as his grandfat...

Over the weekend, on Instagram, Kanye West posted several photos of himself in the studio with Beach House. (West also shared several Polaroid photos that he’s since deleted.) The rapper captioned all three photographs, “🌊🖤,” and tagged the band in one of them. Reacting to one of the photos on Twitter, Anthony Fantano wrote, “Kanye and fuckin Beach House?!?” John Cunningham, an apparent Donda 2 producer, tweeted, “Can confirm 📸.” When reached by Pitchfork, a representative for Beach House’s label Sub Pop could not provide additional information. Last week, West debuted his new album Donda 2 at Miami’s LoanDepot Park. He then released the album via his Stem Player. Beach House shared Once Twice Melody earlier this month. Selena Gomez is the loose, quirky presence on her Hulu detective comedy Only Murders in the Building. So it makes perfect sense that she’d bring a bit of Mabel Mora on Sunday night (Feb. 27) when she presented an award alongside her cast mate Martin Short at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The 29-year-old star took the stage barefoot to hand out the outstanding female actress in a supporting role trophy to West Side Story‘s Ariana DeBose. Explore See latest videos, charts and news The shoeless shuffle came after Gomez had a bit of a slip-up earlier in the evening on the red carpet when she strutted out to pose and one of her Christian Louboutin pumps gave way and she fell into a handler’s arms before getting pulled back up to her feet. Seemingly not wanting a repeat, Gomez ditched the...
