Hey, not everyone pops out of the womb a star. Grace Franklin, the 15-year-old granddaughter of Aretha Franklin, appeared on American Idol on Sunday (February 27th), but didn’t quite have the same chops as her mythological elder to allow her to advance to the singing program. “I feel like people expect me to sing exactly like her, but I am my own artist and I have my own voice,” the young Franklin said in a pre-recorded clip prior to her audition. Unfortunately, judges Lionel Ritchie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan weren’t exactly impressed with the voice she offered. Dee Snider Endorses Ukrainians Using ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’
After various reports that Twisted Sister‘s 1984 hit “We’re Not Gonna Take It” was being used as a rallying cry by Ukrainians over the weekend, the band’s leader Dee Snider — who is part Ukrainian — says that he couldn’t be prouder. “I absolutely approve of Ukrainians using ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ as their battle cry,” Snider wrote in a tweet. “My grandfather was Ukrainian before it was swallowed up by the USSR after WW2. Nina Nastasia Digitally Reissues Three Out-of-Print Albums
Singer-songwriter Nina Nastasia has returned after a 10-year hiatus to reissue three of her out-of-print albums. Nastasia’s 2006 album On Leaving, 2007 Jim White collaboration You Follow Me, and 2010 record Outlaster are available digitally for the first time via the musician’s new label home Temporary Residence Ltd. The Chicks Announce 2022 North American Tour
The Chicks have announced a North American tour that’s set to start in June. Patty Griffin will support most dates, with Jenny Lewis taking a handful of opening slots in July. See the full itinerary below. The tour is the group’s first since they released Gaslighter, their eighth album, in July 2020. Gaslighter arrived nearly 15 years after 2006’s Taking the Long Way, along with a name change for the group. The Chicks are also set to appear at Bonnaroo alongside J. Kanye West Posts Studio Photos With Beach House
Over the weekend, on Instagram, Kanye West posted several photos of himself in the studio with Beach House. (West also shared several Polaroid photos that he’s since deleted.) The rapper captioned all three photographs, “🌊🖤,” and tagged the band in one of them. Reacting to one of the photos on Twitter, Anthony Fantano wrote, “Kanye and fuckin Beach House?!?” John Cunningham, an apparent Donda 2 producer, tweeted, “Can confirm 📸.” When reached by Pitchfork, a representative for Beach House’s label Sub Pop could not provide additional information. The Chicks Detail Summer Tour to Support Gaslighter
The Chicks are set to embark on a 27-city tour of the U.S this summer. With Patty Griffin and Jenny Lewis as supporters, the country women-trio will kick off June 14 in St. Louis. Griffin will open for the Chicks from June 14 through July 16, and then August 5 through August 13. Lewis will join the tour for six special dates beginning July 23 through August 2. Fans can purchase tickets beginning 10 a.m. local on Friday, March 4 via Ticketmaster. The Chicks most recently released their fifth studio record, Gaslighter, in July 2020.
