Oso Oso Return with New Single “Pensacola”: Stream

Oso Oso return today with their first new music in almost three years. The emo-pop project founded by Jade Lilitri has shared the breezy single “Pensacola,” along with an accompanying music video. Conceptual storytelling is a running theme through much of Lilitri’s music, and “Pensacola” is no exception. Backed by an easygoing, staccato piano riff, the track tells the story of a man whose growing list of DUIs have prevented him from seeing his romantic partner 79 miles away. “Seventy-nine dollars to my name, staying alive by the sound of yours/ Just 79 miles out from your place,” Lilitri sings. The Dan Maddalone-directed music video sees Lilitri go about his mundane morning routine à la Stranger Than Fiction, until the visuals get interrupted by trippy distortion that seem to mimic th...

While nearly all save data will be transferable, you’ll need to manually copy some of the save files over to your Steam folder. On Squeeze, Sasami Creates Music for High-Fashion Tantrums

In February 2020, Sasami Ashworth packed her acoustic guitar and headed to a songwriter’s retreat in Washington state. The classically-trained musician thought she would return with Joni Mitchell-esque material. The night before the retreat, however, Ashworth found herself in a Los Angeles dive bar where sludge metal band Barishi was performing. As the cymbals and double-kick drum bounced off the venue walls, she was inspired by the band’s energy and aggressive volume. A folk follow-up would have to wait. “I didn’t realize, until I was at that show, that metal might be the certain brand of rock that can convey what I’m trying to achieve,” Ashworth tells SPIN over the phone. When Ashworth arrived at the retreat the next day, she was already writing what would become “Need it to Work.” The s...

How Carson McHone Turns Stripped-Down Country Music Into an Alt Rock Concerto on Still Life

Carson McHone’s dad was a local beer distributor in Austin and knew every bartender on the circuit. In turn, that networking helped her land gigs at honky tonks and dives across the city, until she, with only a handful of biographical songs and no record deal. McHone wound up opening for Shakey Graves in 2015, because they both emerged from the same scene and he took a chance on her “timeless country voice.” Her LP from the same year, Carousel, became an ethereal portrait of Central Texas, something akin to the voices of her fellow underground, regional raconteurs. It was hailed as a country record, but McHone has long wrestled with calling herself a country act, instead of existing somewhere in-between it and indie rock. “I felt like the people around me, who were embodying honky tonk mus...

Tianna Esperanza Unveils Debut Single ‘Lewis’

Rising artist Tianna Esperanza has shared her debut track “Lewis.” [embedded content][embedded content] The song slinks and struts through its powerful message propped against a relaxed-jazzy beat. Esperanza’s lyrics fall off the tongue as she savors every word on the track, emphasizing lyrics with a spoken-word-like cadence. Her sultry tone evokes a long-lost era of jazz helmed by acts such as Nina Simone. Her grandmother is punk rock icon Paloma McLardy who founded the 1970s band The Slits and later played with The Raincoats. The track serves as an homage to Lewis H. Michaux, the owner of Harlem’s historic African National Memorial Bookstore. Esperanza, a 21-year old London-based bi-racial artist, finds herself inspired by Michaux’s work. “Lewis woke me up to the reality of classism, rac...
