Sony is continuing to make use of its Universe of Marvel Characters. According to Deadline, the studio has cast Fred Hechinger as Chameleon in the upcoming Kraven the Hunter. The White Lotus breakout will star alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the title role, as well as Russell Crowe in an undisclosed role. Word is that much of the Kraven cast will be made up of the classic Spider-Man villain’s family (with Crowe likely playing his father), and that fits with Hechinger joining as Chameleon. Netflix has signed a three-year deal with several French film guilds that will see the streaming platform invest at least €40 million EUR ($45 million USD) in at least 10 French-language and European movies. Within the deal, Netflix has vowed to invest at least 4% of its annual net revenue in French and European movie productions, with a minimum of €30 million EUR ($34 million USD) reserved for French-language films. The agreement, which was announced on Tuesday by French film guilds ARP, BLIC and BLOC, will provide each movie with a theatrical release in France before launching on Netflix 15 months later. Universal has shared a first look image for Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming biopic Oppenheimer, which sees Cillian Murphy star as the atomic bomb father J. Robert Oppenheimer. The forthcoming film, which is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triump and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kair Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, has begun production in New Mexico. The movie will be shot using a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography, along with sections in IMAX black-and-white analog film. Roku has shared a first-look image from its upcoming original biopic movie, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, which sees Daniel Radcliffe sporting a Hawaiian shirt and curly hair in character as Weird Al. HBO has announced the premiere dates for Phoenix Rising, the new documentary in which Evan Rachel Wood discusses the abuse allegations she made against Marilyn Manson. The first part, subtitled Don’t Fall, airs on Tuesday, March 15 at 9 p.m. Eastern; the second part, called Stand Up, airs the following day at the same time. Gary Brooker, who co-founded and led the English rock band Procol Harum, has died. The group announced the news on its website Tuesday (February 22), writing that Brooker had died peacefully at home amid cancer treatment. “He lit up any room he entered, and his kindness to a multilingual family of fans was legendary,” his bandmates wrote. Gary Brooker was 76. Procol Harum were best known for their debut 1967 single “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” which became an anthem for the exploding counterculture movement. Brooker had established the group with Keith Reid, Ray Royer, David Knights, and Matthew Fisher, having been a busy presence in Britain’s early 1960s rock scene.
