Nick Cannon Sings About How He Wants Mariah Carey Back on New Song ‘Alone’: Listen

Nick Cannon unveiled his new song “Alone” on Monday (Feb. 14), and it features a surprise declaration to his ex-wife Mariah Carey. “This is for anybody else who is #ALONE on Valentines Day… I had to come Raw from the heart on this one,” he captioned the post introducing the track on Instagram, adding the hashtags “#Broken #Shattered #Toxic #RAW&B #Alone.” However, the biggest shock came when fans hit play on the track, and the first voice they heard wasn’t Cannon’s, but Carey’s. The song flips her iconic 1990 single “Love Takes Time” into a quavering, ghostly sample that hangs over the proceedings. Swizz Beatz Confirms Anthony Hamilton/Musiq Soulchild Verzuz Battle Will Be Free on IG After Triller Backlash

Verzuz co-creators  Swizz Beatz and Timbaland were elated when their pandemic-launched musical battle platform was acquired by the Triller Network in 2021, a year after the global livestream phenomenon launched and exploded during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, Swizz told Billboard that they didn’t originally have any plans to monetize the business and were just focused on giving people “some live, love and happiness” during the pandemic. Explore See latest videos, charts and news And then came the backlash from fans when it looked like Tuesday’s (Feb. 15) long-awaited Anthony Hamilton vs. Musiq Soulchild Valentine’s Day showdown would be available only on the paid Triller platform instead of for free on Instagram Live, where it has been since its ince...

‘Easy on Me’ Is Adele’s Longest-Leading No. 1 on Billboard’s Radio Songs Chart

Adele rewrites her longest reign on Billboard‘s all-genre Radio Songs chart, as “Easy on Me” spends a 12th week at the summit (on the tally dated Feb. 19). The song surpasses the 11-week rule of “Hello” in 2015-16 for her new career best. (She has notched five No. 1s on the survey.) “Easy on Me” maintains its command with 85.3 million in airplay audience, down 4%, in the Feb. 4-10 tracking week, according to MRC Data. Notably, Adele is just the third artist with multiple No. 1s to lead Radio Songs for 11 weeks or more. She joins Boyz II Men, with four, and Mariah Carey, with three (including their duet, “One Sweet Day”). Meanwhile, “Easy on Me” is only the 20th No. 1 of at least 12 weeks since Radio Songs began in December 1990 (of 295 total leaders to date, lifting the song to among only ...

David Fincher Speaks on China’s Change to ‘Fight Club’ Ending

Fight Club director David Fincher has responded to the film’s controversially changed ending on Tencent Video, the Chinese video streaming website owned by Tencent. Speaking to Empire Magazine, the filmmaker compared the decision to change the ending to the finale of Chuck Palahniuk’s novel, which saw “Jack” enter an institution, “It’s funny to me that the people who wrote the Band-Aid [ending] in China must have read the book, because it adheres pretty closely.” “Here’s what we know,” he said. “A company licensed the film from New Regency to show it in China, with a boilerplate [contract]: ‘You have to understand cuts may be made for censhorship purposes.’ No-one said, ‘If we don’t like the ending, can we change it?’ So there’s now a discussion being had as to what ‘trims’ means.” Fi...

Zoë Kravitz Reminds Hulu That Cancelling ‘High Fidelity’ Was a “Big Mistake”

More than a year after Hulu‘s cancellation of High Fidelity, actress Zoë Kravitz reminded the network that canning the series was “a big mistake.” In a recent interview with Elle, the 33-year-old actress doubled down on the comments she made about Hulu’s move. “They didn’t realize what that show was and what it could do,” Kravitz shared. “The amount of letters, DMs, people on the street, and women that look like us—like, that love for the show, it meant something to people. It was a big mistake.” Upon the show’s cancellation, Kravitz took to social media to share her gratitude for the short-lived series. “I wanna give a shout out to my #highfidelity family,” she wrote on an instagram post. “Thank you for all the love and heart you put into this show. I’m in awe of all of you. And...

To Live and Die in San Francisco

It’s Monday morning. The weekend is still sagging in my ears. Coffee is supreme. I have this spot on Geary Street that opens early, serves the perfect medium drip and isn’t so hipster that I need to discuss their facial hair or my sneakers. As I scurry along, the fog already clinches the Bay, I hopscotch right into a stand-off. Two humans, dressed in sleeping bags and holding bottles of hooch are having a barney. A lovers quarrel perhaps. A little angrier than I could muster at dawn, but here we are. I pause, deciding whether to politely turn around and walk some other way to give them their privacy, or, to be the eternal New Yorker and pretend it’s a city, and walk on by as if they simply do not exist.  My choice gets altered by the tiniest human standing right behind me, holding a b...

Through Acts of God, Immolation Are Death Metal Masters — and Students

Immolation have one of the most consistently great discographies in death metal. Their 11th album Acts of God, out this Friday (February 18) on Nuclear Blast, meets their benchmark for excellence. It is not just their brand of death metal in its prime, but death metal itself in its prime, when it became more complex and sophisticated in the early ‘90s without losing its base fury and grotesqueness. Guitarist Bob Vigna’s labyrinthine guitar still drives them, going in all sorts of directions that seem incomprehensible when dissected on their own, but taken together are unrivaled in flow. How does “The Age of No Light” go from a dissonant black metal intro to pecking melodicism to charging upstrokes all in one song? Incomprehensibly brilliant. Bassist and vocalist Ross Dolan, the other remai...
