Despite an onslaught of cryptocurrency content, most of this year’s Super Bowl advertisements understood the assignment, shelling out the big bucks in order to turn up the star power at every possible opportunity. While many Game Day ads boasted blockbuster celebrity pairings (yes, that was Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus joining forces for T-Mobile, and Zendaya and André 3000 finding some time to sell seashells for Squarespace), mini-reunions of classic TV show casts also dominated the advertising airwaves of Super Bowl LVI on Sunday (February 14th). From Scrubs to The Sopranos, we’ve got them all rounded up here in case you unglued yourself from the living room couch in order to grab more snacks. Check out the nostalgia-inducing ads you may have missed below. Scrubs: Zach Braff and Donald F...
Destroyer have a Valentine’s Day present for you, and spoiler alert, it’s a new song. The Canadian indie rockers have shared “Eat the Wine, Drink the Bread,” the latest preview of their forthcoming album, LABYRINTHITIS. With Joshua Wells’ percussion and John Collins’ drum programming in the spotlight, “Eat the Wine, Drink the Bread” — no, that’s not a typo — juxtaposes a galloping, disco-infused beat with frontman Dan Bejar’s subtle melancholy. “Been meaning to wear my hair like this for ages/ I mean down, down, all the way down,” he sings. Over a bright instrumental, Bejar’s solemn delivery seems to say: Life is hard, so why not indulge in its comforts while we’re here? Listen to “Eat the Wine, Drink the Bread” below. The film was described as “a gothic sci-fi extravaganza” set in Trinity College Cambridge, where a scientific experiment goes awry resulting in the resurrection of the infamous Edwardian occultist Aleister Crowley, who was immortalized into...

In a recent Cameo video requested by Sobre La Dosis, former DREAM THEATER and current THE WINERY DOGS drummer Mike Portnoy was asked to name his favorite decade for heavy metal: the 1980s or the 1990s. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Well, for metal, I would have to say the ’80s, ’cause the ’90s started to go downhill. Once grunge came around, the ’90s… Really, the only thing going for metal, for me at least, in the ’90s was PANTERA, SEPULTURA and MACHINE HEAD; those were the only new bands, really, doing metal. All of the other great metal bands of the ’90s all came around in the ’80s. So for me, the ’80s, we got METALLICA, ANTHRAX, SLAYER, OVERKILL, EXODUS, MEGADETH… That was all the thrash scene, and then all the ...

Mitski’s Laurel Hell is the top-selling album in America, as Billboard notes. The record debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, having been out-streamed by a handful of records including Disney’s Encanto soundtrack. But based on her 24,000 digital and physical figures—including a hefty 17,000 vinyl sales, the year’s highest so far—Mitski is a (sort of) chart topper. Phil Waldorf, a co-founder of Mitski’s label, Dead Oceans, said in a statement: An independent artist landing a Top 5 on the Billboard 200 and a number 1 selling album is always an achievement to celebrate, but with Mitski it rings especially true. Mitski is an uncompromising artist and a generational talent, and to see her gain commercial recognition, entirely on her own terms, is an incredible achievement. This month, Mitski ...
