Eminem Praises Kendrick Lamar as “Top Tier” Lyricist of All Time: Watch

Eminem had nothing but good things to say about Kendrick Lamar ahead of teaming up with the rapper for the Super Bowl LVI halftime show. While speaking to Sway Calloway on his own Shade 45 SiriusXM station, Em sang his co-headliner’s praises. “Kendrick, to me, is the most electrifying vocalist of this generation. Would you agree with that?” the host asked, to which the rapper responded, “I absolutely would agree. I would agree with that. Kendrick is at the very, very top tier of lyricists. Not just of this generation, but of all time.” The two rap icons will be joined by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Mary J. Blige on Sunday for an all-star halftime performance shining the spotlight on some most influential hip-hop and R&B music ever made. Their songs “Rap God” and “HUMBLE.” were featur...

Ghost and Volbeat Bring the Fire in the Home of the Devils: Recap + Photos

You might not expect a rock or metal show to kick off with a saxophone rhythm that slaps, but that was the first sound the fans at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, heard onstage as Twin Temple began to play on Thursday night (February 10th). Vocalist Alexandra James and her husband, guitarist Zachary James, took to the stage in an opening ritual with swords and all. The singer asked for Satan to burn down sexism, racism and ignorance. If the big man downstairs is wise, he’ll heed her request. Alexandra’s vibe is part Elvira, with the soulful essence of an Amy Winehouse, and a sprinkle of a Lars von Trier film — but she has created an innovative style that is all her own. The height of her beehive hair was impressive, but nothing could outmatch her vocal talent as she belted out...

Culture Vultures Are Global: Brussels Hair Salon Promotes ‘African Hair Style’ With Kim Kardashian Photo

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: VALERIE MACON / Getty One thing to know about cultural appropriation—it’s a global phenomenon. That’s why it isn’t terribly surprising that a hair salon in Brussels, Belgium, used the image of the culture vulture queen herself, Kim Kardashian, to promote “African hair style.” Now, as the New York Post notes, Kim’s image was likely used in the ad without her permission, but seeing as Black people have been dragging Kardashians for years because they adopt Black aesthetic like white actresses adopt Black children, it’s still kind of her fault for having so many “I wanna be a sista’ so bad” photos out there in the first place. From the Post: The incident comes right on the heels of the mogul being accused of “blackfishing” in her recent Vogue cover shoo...

The Ledger: Hits Are Great, But Labels & Publishers Seek Higher Margins Too

There’s little doubt record labels and publishers will continue to improve revenues in the coming years on the backs of streaming subscriptions, stronger internet advertising and burgeoning sectors like social media and connected fitness. But there’s less certainty about how their margins will grow as industry revenues surge. Investors and analysts are making their best guesses. During Warner Music Group’s earnings call on Tuesday (Feb 8), RBC Capital Markets analyst Kutgun Maral asked management asked if recent deals “are indicative of a greater focus on M&A” and if they “are accretive or dilutive to margins.” CEO Stephen Cooper said WMG will “be quite assertive” in seeking deals it believes can be “immediately accretive [to margins].” Lou Dickler, senior vp, controller, added that th...
