Nikki Sixx Hits Back at Pearl Jam After Eddie Vedder’s Criticism of Mötley Crüe: ‘They’re One of the Most Boring Bands in History’

There hasn’t been a good rock band spat in…forever? Well, that has certainly changed! Eddie Vedder gave a lengthy interview to the New York Times last weekend (which was very interesting and wide-ranging) ahead of his new solo album, Earthling. In the interview, Vedder described working at a club in San Diego during the late ’80s where he’d load in band’s gear. “I’d end up being at shows that I wouldn’t have chosen to go to — bands that monopolized late-’80s MTV,” Vedder said. “The metal bands that — I’m trying to be nice — I despised. ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ and Mötley Crüe: Fuck you. I hated it. I hated how it made the fellas look. I hated how it made the women look. It felt so vacuous.” Now, Nikki Sixx has hit back. In a tweet, Sixx expressed his displeasure and mocked Vedder an...

ALL THAT REMAINS Frontman Calls SPOTIFY CEO ‘A D**k’, Says Streaming Giant Doesn’t Pay Artists Well

ALL THAT REMAINS frontman Phil Labonte is the latest musician to take issue with Spotify CEO Daniel Ek‘s suggestion that artists need to be more prolific in the streaming age. For years, Spotify has been criticized for offering paltry payouts to musicians and songwriters, with some claiming that the service gives major-label artists an unfair advantage via playlist placement and other promotional avenues. In an interview published in July 2020, Ek told Music Ally: “Even today on our marketplace, there’s literally millions and millions of artists. What tends to be reported are the people that are unhappy, but we very rarely see anyone who’s talking about… In the entire existence [of Spotify], I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single artist saying, ‘I&#...

Having been eligible for induction since 1999, PRIEST was also on the ballot for the 2018 class of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, but was ultimately left out of the inductee list. Joe Rogan Apologizes for Past Use of N-Word: “I Clearly Have Fucked Up”

Joe Rogan has apologized for his past use of the N-word, saying in an Instagram video that it was “the most regretful and shameful thing that I’ve ever had to talk about publicly.” The host of The Joe Rogan Experience posted the video apology hours after Spotify took down 70 of his show’s episodes. The removal of at least some of these episodes was apparently due Rogan’s use of racist or other derogatory language. Earlier on Friday, the Grammy Award-winning singer India.Arie highlighted 24 instances in which Rogan used the N-word during episodes of his podcast. While arguing that Arie’s video was “made of clips taken out of context of me of … 12 years of conversations on my podcast, and it’s all smushed together,” Rogan nonetheless admitted that “it looks fuckin’ horrible, even to me.” Adv...

Skrillex Photographed with Jordan Peterson

Skrillex was photographed backstage with Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson after attending one of his talks in Miami Beach on Thursday evening. “Good to see you yesterday @Skrillex,” tweeted Peterson on Friday. He later shared a photo of the two together with the caption, “Guess who.” Peterson’s well-articulated views on feminism, gender identity, and white privilege have turned him into a contentious personality favored by the far right and opposed by the left. Among other things, Peterson has expressed a refusal to acknowledge gender-neutral pronouns, has referred to white privilege as a “Marxist lie,” and argued for “enforced monogamy” to reduce male violence. He’s often spoken against the idea of “social justice warriors,” has scoffed at the notion of “Islamophobia,” ...

Watch Eddie Vedder Dust Off Pearl Jam Deep Cut ‘Dirty Frank’ During Solo Show

Eddie Vedder and the Earthlings are only two dates into their intimate U.S. tour, and they’ve already managed to pack their setlists full of gems. After treating fans to Beatles and Bob Dylan covers, along with Pearl Jam classics, on opening night at New York’s Beacon Theater, Vedder and his band performed a collection of different songs during the second night at the venue. While they did play some of the same songs both nights, including songs off Earthling, covers of REM‘s “Drive,” Tom Petty‘s “Room at the Top,” and George Harrison‘s “Isn’t It a Pity,” Vedder switched up his Pearl Jam selections and dusted off “Dirty Frank” — a Ten deep cut that the band hadn’t played live since 2009. The song was a fitting selection though. Pearl Jam wrote it during their 1991 tour supporting...
