But this is the world we live in. And that world is unexpected and full of many surprises. One of them is that yes, Rihanna is pregnant! She was spotted out in Harlem over the weekend holding hands with her partner, A$AP Rocky, as she showed off a visible bare baby bump for the cameras. In May 2021, Rocky told GQ that Rih was “the love of my love” and called her “The One.” “She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones,” he said in the interview. Notably, he also expressed a willingness for him and Rihanna to become parents: “I would have a very fly child. Ve...

Neil Young’s Partnership to Offer Free Amazon Music Shows Limits of Spotify Stand

Neil Young followed up his withdraw from Spotify last week by entering what appears to be a partnership with Amazon Music, offering his fans a free four-month trial and demonstrating the narrow scope of his activist stand. The legendary songwriter had given the Big Green Circle an ultimatum — stop platforming Joe Rogan’s COVID-19 misinformation, or he’d take his business elsewhere. Spotify chose Rogan; no surprise, considering they had reportedly invested more than $100 million to make his podcast Spotify exclusive. But the decision sparked a chain reaction that saw #CancelSpotify trend on Twitter, as other icons such as Joni Mitchell and Nils Lofgren of Crazy Horse and the E Street Band pulled their own music in solidarity with Young. Spotify lost $4 billion in market value in l...

On Laurel Hell, Mitski Dashes for the Dance Floor

In March, Mitski Miyawaki will play her first sold-out show at Radio City Music Hall — by far the largest headlining performance of her career, nearly quadruple the size of her last top-billing gig in New York City. Surely the indie noble will be scared shitless; who wouldn’t? That’s 6,000 people you’re supposed to entertain! But during that milestone set, there will be a moment, maybe several, when the full, pounding impact of Laurel Hell, Mitski’s exhilarating sixth LP, envelopes the cavernous theater in synth and the understated artist — who two albums ago was playing tiny clubs to 100 fans — transforms into a bonafide, beaming pop star. OK, maybe that’s assuming too much, but still — the new album, out this Friday, marks the relentlessly acclaimed singer’s first attempt at writing song...

Joe Rogan on Spotify Disclaimer on Podcasts: ‘I’m Very Happy With That’

Following the controversy surrounding Neil Young and Joni Mitchell removing their music from Spotify, Joe Rogan responded to the legendary musicians who are against Rogan’s alleged spreading of COVID misinformation on his podcast through the same streaming service. Last week, Young wrote an open letter claiming he wanted to remove his music from Spotify because of Rogan’s podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, on which he has interviewed numerous people and discussed the COVID vaccine. Mitchell and Nils Lofgren also took their music off the service to support Young and his opinion. Last night, Rogan responded in an 11-minute-long Instagram video. Rogan said his podcast is a series of conversations intended to be entertaining. Alongside interviewing artists, Rogan has interviewed medical p...

In May, A$AP Rocky expressed his adoration for the singer, calling her the “love of my life,” and his desire to one day be a father in an interview with GQ. “I think I’d be an incredible, remarkably overall amazing dad,” he said. “I would have a very fly child. Best known for its popular early ‘80s tagline “The Best Part of Wakin’ Up”, Folgers coffee is unveiling a new campaign today (Jan. 31) with a lot of fanfare — literally. To reinforce its reputation as a brand leader and simultaneously bolster its connection with next-generation coffee drinkers, Folgers commissioned the Joan Jett & the Blackhearts classic “Bad Reputation” as the theme song for its perception-shattering campaign. Headquartered in New Orleans, the 170-year-old firm — part of The J.M. Smucker Co. — also reached out to local favorite and Blue Note Records artist Trombone Shorty.
