Jake Gyllenhaal Will Star In and Produce Heist Thriller ‘Cut & Run’

Jake Gyllenhaal has signed on to star in and produce Cut & Run, a film about thieves that use high-powered speedboats to rob superyachts. Plans go awry, however, when the thieves “steal the wrong thing from the wrong group of people,” per the project’s logline. New Republic Pictures has won the right to the movie’s spec script, which was written by John Glenn, in a bidding war. Glenn penned the script for the Eagle Eye (2008) and Clash of the Titans (2010), among other action and thriller films. Gyllenhaal will also be producing through his own company, Nine Stories Productions. Alongside him, New Republic founder Brian Oliver and president Bradley Fischer will also produce. New Republic signed a first-look deal with Nine Stories last year. The studios worked together on Michael Bay’s ...

‘Mortal Kombat’ Sequel To Move Forward With ‘Moon Knight’ Screenwriter

Mortal Kombat, the action-adventure movie based on the widely-popular video game franchise, will receive a sequel, according to Deadline. The forthcoming film will be created from a script written by Jeremy Slater, who was the head screenwriter for Marvel‘s Moon Knight. Slater is also known for his co-writing 2015’s Fantastic Four with Josh Trank and Simon Kinberg, along with developing Netflix‘s The Umbrella Academy and Fox TV’s The Exorcist. The new film will follow last year’s Mortal Kombat, which was written by Greg Russo and David Callaham. That movie, which opened at No. 1 at the box office, was released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max in April 2021. Post Malone Announces New Album twelve carat toothache

Post Malone, the chart-topping pop star with the million-dollar smile, has announced that his next album is called twelve carat toothache. In a wide-ranging conversation with Billboard, Posty said that the follow-up to 2019’s Hollywood’s Bleeding would clock in at 45 minutes, his shortest album to date. That’s not exactly brief, but it does buck the trend of using marathon releases to hit streaming benchmarks. “Trying to shove 20 to 25 songs, it doesn’t work,” he said. “Talking to the label [it’s like], ‘Oh, if you have less songs, you’re not going to stream as much,’ but the whole thing is that you don’t want to compromise your art and your gut vibe on anything.” He also talked about his creative struggles during the pandemic. “You think about everything at the same ti...

Howard Stern: “Meat Loaf Got Sucked into Some Weird F**king Cult … And Now He’s Dead”

Legendary rocker Meat Loaf passed away at age 74 last week, and while his official cause of death has not been confirmed, TMZ reported that the singer succumbed to COVID-19. Now, radio titan Howard Stern is blaming the music icon’s death on his apparent stance against masking and vaccines, asserting that “Meat Loaf got sucked into some weird f**king cult.” Upon reporting on Meat Loaf’s death, TMZ cited sources as revealing that he fell seriously ill with COVID, and that his condition became critical, eventually leading to his passing. During the pandemic, the singer had spoken out against social distancing and safety measures. In an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in August of 2021, Meat Loaf said, “[Face masks] don’t do anything. They don’t stop you from getting COVID. They’re ...

Chinese Nationalists Call for Boycott of The Matrix Resurrections After Keanu Reeves Joins Tibet Benefit Concert

Keanu Reeves was recently announced for this year’s Tibet House US benefit concert, drawing backlash from Chinese nationalists — some of whom have called for a boycott of his latest film, The Matrix Resurrections. Reeves’ support for the cultural organization, which was founded in 1987 at the request of Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama, has struck a nerve. The People’s Republic of China annexed Tibet in 1950, which ultimately led to the exile of the Dalai Lama, and the Communist Party has cracked down on the region’s people and their culture since then. First held in 1989, the Tibet House US benefit concert is a fundraiser to support the work of the cultural embassy. It’s timed in conjunction with the Tibetan New Year, which has traditionally been marked by the Monlam Prayer Festival. Ad...
