In 2017, Alf Clausen — the man behind the music for each episode of The Simpsons for 27 seasons — was fired, prompting the composer to file a wrongful termination lawsuit against Fox. Now, Variety reports that Clausen has dropped the lawsuit. Clausen, who was 78 at the time he was fired, filed the suit in August 2019, alleging that Fox let him go from the show due to his age and Parkinson’s diagnosis. A judge dismissed part of the lawsuit in 2020, saying Clausen did not have enough evidence to back up his claims of age discrimination, but he could proceed with his disability discrimination claim. Fox appealed the judge’s ruling, and Clausen’s attorney, Ebby Bakhtiar, told Variety that the justices seemed unlikely to rule in Clausen’s favor. Instead of putting Clausen at risk...
Morrissey asserts that former Smiths bandmate, Johnny Marr, must stop mentioning his name for “clickbait” in interviews, via an open letter published on his website on Tuesday, Jan 25. He begins the statement with a disclaimer, stating that he doesn’t intend to stir drama but rather that the statement is “a polite and calmly measured request: Would you please stop mentioning my name in your interviews? As the statement goes on, it becomes a little less measured and certainly less polite as Morrissey elaborates. “The fact is: you don’t know me. You know nothing of my life, my intentions, my thoughts, my feelings. Yet you talk as if you were my personal psychiatrist with consistent and uninterrupted access to my instincts.” He continues, “Must you persistently, y...
Grimes has released a new song ahead of her forthcoming double album, Book 1. “Shinigami Eyes” is pure electro-pop and features Blackpink’s Jennie. The title (and Grimes’ big red eyes in the video) is inspired by the Japanese anime and film, Death Note, about a high school student who finds a book that allows him to kill anyone by writing their name on the pages. It’s unclear whether “Eyes” or her previously-released song “Player of Games” will appear on the new concept album. In a wide-ranging interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Grimes alluded to a less commercial “space opera” she wrote and that “Shinigami Eyes” is more like a one-off: “This is the label executive decision song,” she said in the interview. “I love the record, but it’s just like, everyone’s like, what’s the deeper m...
Interpol is set to embark on their first tour in two years. The band will be hitting the road throughout the U.S., UK, and EU beginning in April. Even though the trio hasn’t released an album since the 2018’s Marauder, the New York post-punk outfit just finished recording their seventh studio record and the new music is arriving soon. The band wrangled TYCHO and Matthew Dear to support them for the U.S. dates, and Dry Cleaning for Mexico City. Alongside a few festival dates, Interpol will close in the U.S. with two nights, May 14 and 15, at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. To hype up the fans for the tour, the band also shared some footage taken during the recording of their upcoming album at Battery Studio in London last year. The lineup includes the 8 Mile soundtrack, the eponymous The Marshall Mathers LP and his most recent full-length release, 2020’s Music To Be Murdered By.
