Money changes everything. Over the past year new types of investors poured record sums into music, reshaping the power dynamics of the business. So Billboard decided to take a closer look at how the industry’s most powerful executives stack up now. On the list that follows, we rank the top 25 and present the rest in alphabetical order by sector. The sands have certainly shifted since we made our last power list. Sure, Sir Lucian Grainge is still at the top of the heap, two years after we named him our executive of the last decade. LONDON – Tributes have been paid to British music executive Andy Ross, a key figure in the 1990s U.K. music scene, who has died at the age of 66. Ross co-ran London-based independent label Food Records with founder David Balfe and famously gave rock band Blur its first record deal, signing the group to the label in 1990 after seeing them perform at the Islington Powerhaus venue months before. Blur’s commercial breakthrough came with its third studio album, Parklife, released on Food Records/EMI in 1994. The album debuted at number one in the U.K., spawning several hit singles, including “Girls And Boys” and its title track, and establishing Blur as leading figures in the ‘Britpop’ era of British guitar bands alongside Oasis and Pulp. Disney has released a statement following Peter Dinklage‘s criticism of the studio’s live-action Snow White film. A spokesperson for the House of Mouse told The Hollywood Reporter, “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community. We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period.” Dinklage shared his comments during a recent episode of Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, stating that the film took one progressive step forward by casting Rachel Zegler — a Latina — as Snow White, but is moving backwards because of the dwarves’ storyline. “Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when th...

In a recent interview with Variety, Craig discussed what it was like filming for Knives Out 2, “We did the second one [in 2021] in Greece, and then we filmed studio work in Serbia. It’s in the can. Rian [Johnson – director] is editing now, and it’ll be out, I think, in the Fall of this year.” Craig has mentioned in the past that the film is quite different from the original. When speaking with Empire, the actor said he felt very “lucky” to have Johnson “in [his] life.” He added, “He’s such a great writer. That script arrived and I was literally like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I couldn’t believe that he wanted me to play it. I was going, ...
Filmmaker Sam Raimi shared his thoughts on Spider-Man: No Way Home and offered an update on his work for Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Speaking to Variety, Raimi called No Way Home “refreshing” and expressed his happiness in seeing Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina reprise their roles from his first two Spider-Man films in 2002 and 2004. “It was so much fun,” the filmmaker said. “I love ‘No Way Home’ and the audience I was with went crazy. It was delightful to watch Alfred play his role, and Willem Dafoe, just seeing these guys take it to the next level. And Tobey was awesome as always. The best word I can say is it was refreshing for me.” In regards to the Doctor Strange sequel, Raimi revealed that he was unsure if they were done filming due to reports ...

It might be the oldest rock’n’roll cliche in the book: that being in a band is akin to being married, in a relationship or part of a family. When bands break up, the word “divorce” gets thrown around pretty regularly to describe the circumstances (in fact, it’s the word John Lennon used when he left The Beatles in 1969). That unavoidable and often uncomfortable interpersonal dynamic may explain why not many well-known bands prominently feature actual family members. Sure, there are a few outliers: 88-year-old Willie Nelson has been backed by his sons Lukas and Micah for two decades, while then-teenager Wolfgang Van Halen more than capably assumed bass playing duties alongside his guitar-slinging dad Eddie and drummer Uncle Alex when Van Halen reunited with David Lee Roth in 2007. But for W...
