How a TikTok Hit About Harry Styles Changed Charlotte Sands’ Life

When Charlotte Sands posted a TikTok at the beginning of COVID asking Yungblud to let her open for him on tour, she didn’t know that it would actually happen. The idea was something the blue-haired singer-songwriter had been putting into the universe for a while, and it finally seemed like her unrelenting hope was paying off. “I genuinely have been manifesting opening for [Yungblud on tour] for about two years now,” Sands laughs over the phone between hours of tour rehearsals in Nashville. “I’ve always been a fan of his message and everything he represents as an artist and as a person. He has always been a really big idol for me.” Born in Massachusetts to a musician father and actress mother, Sands was always surrounded by music. As a kid, she found herself inspired by storytelling songwri...

Evan Rachel Wood Claims Marilyn Manson ‘Essentially Raped’ Her in His Music Video

Actress Evan Rachel Wood made further sexual misconduct claims against singer Marilyn Manson, alleging he “essentially raped” her in his music video for his 2007 track “Heart-Shaped Glasses (When The Heart Guides the Hand).” Wood explained her claim in the new documentary Phoenix Rising, which debuted on Jan. 23 at Sundance Film Festival, that the video was filmed around the time she began dating the disgraced musician. Wood was only 18, while Manson (a.k.a. Brian Warner) was 38. When he pitched some ideas for the video, she was not informed of what Warner would do to her; “It’s nothing like I thought it was going to be,” Wood said. The video was inspired by the controversial classic by Vladimir Nabokov Lolita, which was depicted as a film by Stanley Kubrick. Wood wore the e...

The Lazy Eyes Do It All Themselves—No Matter How Long It Takes

The Lazy Eyes may be fresh in their 20s, but all four members are already feeling the pangs of nostalgia. Roughly seven years after forming, the Sydney-based band is finally ready to drop their self-produced, self-recorded debut album, SongBook, in March. The collection is an escapist, idealistic, time-traveling journey that frolics in Beatles-flavored strawberry fields, trudges through heavy stoner sludge, and plays with the sort of effortless, heady sounds of artists like Tame Impala and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard who have made Australia this century’s hotbed for psych-rock. The band refers to their long-awaited debut as a trip down memory lane. Some songs were written nearly half a decade ago, after all—a lifetime in teenage years. As students at Sydney’s Newtown High School o...

Meat Loaf’s Hit Songs Soar on U.K. Chart Blast

Meat Loaf’s fans in the U.K. are remembering the rock legend by switching on to his music. The Grammy-winning American artist’s biggest hits are surging in the U.K. following his death last Thursday (Jan. 20) of undisclosed causes, at age 74. Based on sales and streaming data from the first 48 hours in the chart cycle, the title track from Bat Out Of Hell flies to No. 4, which would mark a new chart peak if it maintains its position. “Bat” was released in 1979 and has a U.K. chart best of No. 8, set in 1993. The late singer’s 1993 leader “I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)” is at No. 7 on the First Look chart, and “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad” is poised to enter the Top 20 for the very first time at No. 15, having originally topped-out at No. 32 back in September 1978. Amy Berg’s Evan Rachel Wood/Marilyn Manson Doc ‘Phoenix Rising — Part One: Don’t Fall’: Sundance 2022 Film Review

Wood excoriates Warner directly here, recounting how physically, sexually and psychologically abusive he had been, cruelty which included drugging her and then raping her while they filmed the music video for his song “Heart-Shaped Glasses.” Only the first portion of this two-part HBO series was made available and shown via the Sundance Film Festival as this review went to press, but it’s pretty hard to see how Manson’s already shredded reputation will recover from it, no matter how much he denies, as reported here, that any of the allegations are true. Woods alludes to the fact that several other women, such as the actor Esme Bianco, have alleged that they suffered similar abuse from him and perhaps some of them will speak about it on camera in part two of Rising Phoenix. W...

‘Stop Right There!’ Ellen Foley Recalls Epic Duet With Meat Loaf on ‘Paradise By the Dashboard Light”

“Stop Right There!” Three words of warning — and three words that Ellen Foley credits with launching her career in music. It was Foley who belted out the words to Meat Loaf about halfway through their eight-and-a-half minute duet “Paradise By the Dashboard Light,” the epic seduction song on his mega-selling 1977 Bat Out of Hell album. Explore See latest videos, charts and news Foley is now looking back on the singular experience of making the memorable song as she recalls Meat Loaf and a “beautiful, feisty, joyful friendship” that began in her early 20s. Meat Loaf, born Marvin Lee Aday, died on Thursday at 74. He was the most unlikely of rock superstars, Foley says. “I mean, that’s the wild thing,” she said in an interview Friday, when asked to explain the source of his fame...
