With over 21 years in the making, the documentary film spotlighting Kanye West, Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, is set for a three-week event on Netflix beginning on February 16. [embedded content][embedded content] Filmmakers and friends of West, Coodie and Chike, collected videos spanning over 20 years of West’s life and music career for the film. The trailer shows clips of a young West at home, in the studio, and among music legends like Pharrell and Jay-Z. “Very rarely do you encounter self-contained people,” the trailer said. “This man can do everything himself. He livin’ it.” The announcement comes at an interesting, but possibly fitting, time as West has recently been surrounded by various controversies. West invited disgraced artists Marilyn Manson and DaBaby onstage with hi...

Prior to the introduction of streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music, hip-hop was mostly shared between people on urban streets through physical mixtapes and CDs. Beginning in the mid-1970s in New York City, homemade cassettes launched the careers of artists like Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa — two Bronx-based DJs who are credited with influencing the development of the now-worldwide genre. Years later, the same tools helped foster the early careers of rappers like 50 Cent, T.I., Young Jeezy and more. While hip-hop undoubtedly bred a new subculture during that time period through the introduction of rap, new dance forms, graffiti art and distinct style codes, it wasn’t until the evolution of the internet in the 1990s and early 2000s that the genre received widespre...
JUDAS PRIEST will perform as a four-piece on its upcoming tour as the band’s former touring guitarist Andy Sneap, who co-produced the British heavy metal legends’ 2018 album “Firepower”, plans to focus on production work. Sneap, who is also known for his work in NWOBHM revivalists HELL and cult thrash outfit SABBAT, began touring with PRIEST four years ago after longtime guitarist Glenn Tipton — who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease eight years ago after being stricken by the condition at least half a decade earlier — announced in early 2018 he was going to sit out touring activities in support of “Firepower”. Earlier today, PRIEST issued the following statement: “Hello maniacs! We are chomping at the British Steel bit to return to world...

As the release date for DCEU‘s The Batman comes closer, Ben Affleck has revealed why he decided to walk away from directing and starring in the upcoming film. In a recent interview with The LA Times Affleck discussed the growing pressures he faced in her personal life that caused him to shift his priorities, “Directing [The] Batman is a good example. I looked at it and thought, ‘I’m not going to be happy doing this. The person who does this should love it.’ You’re supposed to always want these things, and I probably would have loved doing it at 32 or something.” With his breadth of experience in the industry, it made Affleck “realize it’s not worth it. It’s just a wonderful benefit of reorienting and recalibrating your priorities that once it started being more about the experience, I felt...
