In a case brought by more than a dozen record labels, including UMG Recordings, Warner Records and Sony Music Entertainment, U.S. Magistrate Judge Theresa Buchanan said the sites operated by Tofig Kurbanov, a Russian national, should be shut down permanently via injunctions and that statutory damages of $50,000 be awarded for each of the 1,618 copyrighted works the sites infringed. Adele’s ‘30’ Heading For U.K. Christmas No. 1

Adele should be top of the tree this Christmas. The superstar British singer is all set to land the U.K.’s Christmas No. 1 album, with 30 (Columbia) leading the midweek chart and holding course for a fifth consecutive week atop the national chart. If it maintains its position when the survey proper is published this Friday — Christmas Eve — it’ll tie Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour as the longest-running No. 1 album of the year. Sour, however, completed its five-week run in separate blocks. 30 would be Adele’s second Christmas leader, following 2015’s 25, part of its 13-week reign. The Story Behind Crowded House’s “Hey Now, Hey Now” Anthem “Don’t Dream It’s Over”

Listen via Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts | Pocket Casts | RSS Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over” is one of the most memorable tunes of the ’80s, and the band’s Neil Finn explores that lasting legacy on the latest edition of The Story Behind the Song. Crowded House helped launch a new post-New Wave era in pop music in 1986, creating beautifully simple, earthy melodies driven by guitars rather than synths. Lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter Neil Finn founded the band after the demise of Split Enz (a Kiwi band out of New Zealand with several iconic songs of its own.) Over the years, the band has somewhat quietly sold over 15 million albums worldwide and continues to release new music; just earlier this year, the band rele...

Mac DeMarco Covers “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: Stream

Mac DeMarco is back with a new addition to his Christmas covers cannon. This year, he’s taken on the 1943 classic “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Written by Kim Gannon and Walter Kent, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” was originally recorded by Bing Crosby, centering around Crosby’s slow crooning and a swell of lush strings. In DeMarco’s chilled-out version, the singer’s go-to piano adds a jazzy touch to the standard, and a bent-note guitar solo makes the song sound like a DeMarco original. In the accompanying music video, an anthropomorphic inflatable tree traverses the streets before setting up shop in a Christmas tree farm. Check out the video below.
