RZA and Flatbush Zombies are big Quentin Tarantino fans. Last week, the Wu-Tang MC teamed up with the hip-hop group for the Reservoir Dogs-inspired single “Plug Addicts,” and now, the artists are back with a song named after the director himself. Produced by RZA, Prince Paul, and Erick the Architect, “Quentin Tarantino” sees Flatbush Zombies rap over a slow, smoky guitar riff. Zombie Juice, Erick the Architect, and Meechy Darko blend references to characters real and imagined, noting, “Who killed Bill? They shot Kennedy/ Malcom layin’ dead, like how they gon’ level the playin’ field?” In the accompanying music video, directed by John Tashiro, RZA does his best Mr. Blonde while the Zombies roam Los Angeles in white suits. The rappers discussed the origin of “Quentin Tarantino” in a sta...
A one-time Winter Olympic speed skater found herself in hot water today when she was charged with defrauding the federal government of $10 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, part of which she allegedly used to help fund an Elijah Wood movie. In court papers filed in Utah, prosecutors allege that Allison Baver — who represented the United States in the 2002, 2006, and 2010 Olympics as a member of the women’s speed skating team — filed multiple loan applications claiming her production company, Allison Baver Productions, had as many as 430 employees and a monthly payroll of $4 million. According to the indictment, the Taylorsville, Utah native’s eponymous company was all smoke and mirrors, with no employees at all. And yet, Baver’s applications were approved to the tune of a...
[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Mother/Android.] The new Hulu film Mother/Android is a story about the robot apocalypse that’s really about the power of parental love. Chloe Grace Moretz stars as Georgia, a young woman living in a world where robot servants are a normal part of life; until, that is, the night the androids rose up in violent revolt against humanity. Up until then, the biggest problem Georgia had was how she and her boyfriend Sam (Algee Smith) were going to handle her unplanned pregnancy — several months later, they’re making their way through the northeast backroads towards Boston, where there’s promise of a ship that might help them escape from a ruined America. All they have to do is survive the constant threat of robot attacks, not to mention her own ...

Legendary electronic music producer Sven Väth has announced Catharsis, his first album in almost 20 years. Revered as a pathfinder in techno and ambient music, Väth’s decades-long influence on the electronic music scene is matched by few. And despite 19-year gap between Catharsis and his last album, 2002’s Fire, it’s obvious that Väth is still very much a techno aesthete: “All my touring, intense experiences, incredible people. Life moving fast,” Väth wrote in an announcement shared via social media. “Catharsis came gushing out as I slowed down. It was almost an out of body experience. Mystic pauses. Time to reflect. Every track on this record came from accumulated moments and emotions finding their voice.” After its scheduled release...

For 21-year-old Imad, his latest single, “Makan” (with Samia), goes far beyond your basic melodic techno track. Instead, the hauntingly atmospheric song was rewritten by the Lebanese and Nigerian artist after the devastating explosion in Beirut last August. It translates to “place” in Arabic. “That was a turning point for a lot of people in the country, as the general economic, social and quality of life in Lebanon had been rapidly declining,” said Imad, who splits his time between Beirut and London, in a press release. “[Samia and I] dedicated it to the relationship a lot of us have with Lebanon.” Recommended Articles The resulting version of “Makan,” which was originally composed as Imad’s submission for entry into P...
