David Morales On His New Album, DJ Culture, and “Sunday Mass” Radio Show

Grammy Award-winning producer, songwriter, and DJ David Morales is a household name in house music, having toured the world many times over. Morales’ influence continues to pervade the dance music space, as evidenced by one of 2021’s biggest hits, Skrillex and J Balvin’s “In Da Getto,” which samples his 1993 track “In De Ghetto.” But in his travels, he’s also made friends in the music industry all over the world, such as Steve Laviniere of Bobby & Steve. The soul-house duo are known for their shows on KISS FM and Garage City, and their long-running Groove Odyssey label. In March 2020, Laviniere suffered a rare brain injury called acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis after contracting COVID-19. In an effort to raise...

R3HAB Reflects On Storied 13-Year Career, Passion and Purpose

Have you ever been to a party with terrible music?  In a social setting, the musical selection obviously plays a critical role in the ambiance and can either liven or dampen the mood. Experiencing the latter is what inspired an ambitious, teenage R3HAB to get into DJing and music production.  “I remember when I went to a school party as a teenager, I realized how much music had an affect on the mood,” R3HAB told EDM.com in an interview. “With that, I noticed how important it is to curate [the music] correctly.” 13 years ago—nearly to the date—the Moroccan-Dutch DJ and producer emerged with his first production, “Mrkrstft,” which was eventually remixed by dance music icon Hardwell. The record marked the first of many collaborations wit...

DREAM THEATER singer James LaBrie spoke to Full Metal Jackie‘s nationally syndicated radio show about his upcoming solo album “Beautiful Shade Of Gray”, which is due on May 20, 2022 via InsideOut Music. Unlike previous LPs “Elements Of Persuasion” (2005), “Static Impulse” (2010) and “Impermanent Resonance” (2013), which were written and recorded as a collaboration with LaBrie‘s songwriting partner for over a dozen years, Matt Guillory, the new effort was tracked with Scottish musician Paul Logue, bassist and founding member of the multinational melodic metal band EDEN’S CURSE. Speaking about how 1970s rock music influenced and inspired his new solo album, James said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I’m a hu...

Deathcall – AGNES VEIN

RATING: 8/10 Heavyweights of the Greek underground, AGNES VEIN have been all but silent since 2013’s sophomore effort “Soulship”, with only an excellent split release with fellow countrymen SADHUS, released in 2016, to confirm their ongoing existence. Judging by the music on “Deathcall”, the queasy morbidity that informed the band’s first two albums has not diminished over time. What has changed is that their sound has grown in depth and stature, while also suddenly seeming incredibly timely and in tune with multiple metal zeitgeists. Self-evident students of the notion that heaviness is a matter of feel as much as it is a brutality pissing contest, AGNES VEIN erupt in slow-motion dismay on the opening title track, before tearing off at a breakneck pace:...

COREY TAYLOR Says ‘The Greatest Misconception’ is That JOEY JORDISON And PAUL GRAY Wrote All The Music For SLIPKNOT

SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor spoke to Lou Brutus of HardDrive Radio about the progress of the recording sessions for the band’s follow-up to 2019’s “We Are Not Your Kind” album. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “When we started first putting the new music together, it was a lot of flying around, people doing it in certain spots and trying to get the best out of it even though we were in the confines of lockdowns and stuff. So it was tricky. But we had a great producer with Joe Barresi, and he knows how to get the best out of pretty much any band that he’s ever worked with. He’s super rad and loves what we do, which sometimes that’s all you need — is just somebody going, ‘We’re gonna do this.’ So he would come ...

How the Grammy Children’s Music Category Embraced Diversity: ‘There Wasn’t Enough Melanin Up In There’

The Grammys’ best children’s music album category rarely generates headlines, but it did in late 2020 when three of the five contenders declined their nominations to protest the fact that all of the nominees were white artists — a result that felt especially disheartening amid the Black Lives Matter movement and the country’s larger reckoning with racial equity.  Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news In December 2020, Alastair Moock, Dog on Fleas and the Okee Dokee Brothers dropped out of the Grammy race and stood in solidarity with artists of color in the family music space. Even though Family Music Fo...
