VOLBEAT’s MICHAEL POULSEN On Making New Death Metal Album: ‘It’s Gonna Happen One Day’

In a new interview with Finland’s Chaoszine, VOLBEAT frontman Michael Poulsen, who played extreme metal with his first band, DOMINUS, back in the early ’90s, said that he wouldn’t rule out a return to death metal in future. “It’s gonna happen one day; I just don’t know when,” he said. “It’s gonna be at a time when I feel it’s the right time where I’m just inspired to do that. I have so many great friends in the death metal community, and I’ve been talking to a lot of them. I just know it’s gonna happen. I just don’t know when.” Back in 2011, Poulsen told Soundspike about his pre-VOLBEAT act: “[DOMINUS] was straight metal. On the third record, we were starting to flirt around with making a little...

On Tuesday (November 30), Kelly shared a screenshot on Instagram Story of what appeared to be an e-mail from National Enquirer that asked for her to comment on the upcoming story which said that Sharon and Ozzy‘s daughter “has been dealing with stress of her relapse by eating.” While the unverified message said that Kelly should reply to the tabloid magazine and its editor-in-chief, Dan Dolan, if she has a comment about the story, Kelly shared the e-mail on her social media and included the following comment: “This is what I have to deal with on a daily basis. Feel free...

Wolfgang Van Halen says that David Lee Roth will “always be one of the best” frontmen in rock. This past October, the legendary VAN HALEN singer announced that he was ending his career with his upcoming Las Vegas residency during the first weeks of January. “I am throwing in the shoes. I’m retiring,” Roth told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “These are my last five shows.” Wolfgang, who joined his father Eddie Van Halen in VAN HALEN at the age of 16 for the band’s 2007 reunion tour with Roth, replacing Michael Anthony, was asked about David‘s retirement in a new interview with Consequence. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Dave is a… he’s very much a one-of-a-kind [chuckles] sort of guy. We don’t really talk...

Bad Bunny And Taylor Swift Are Spotify’s Most-Streamed Global Artists Of 2021

Every year to kick off the month of December, Spotify launches its Wrapped feature, a quantitative look at the songs and artists (and now also podcasts) we listened to the most on its platform. Mine is pretty much the same every year — 600 minutes of my personal 2021 were spent listening to R.E.M., and I plan to spend even more in 2022 — but I am in the minority. Normal people apparently use Spotify to discover and endlessly stream new music. Sounds like a nice idea, honestly. I should try it. Wrapped also presents plenty of opportunities for novelty (I apparently listened to so much of a white noise podcast the night before my wedding while I was having trouble sleeping that it registered as my top-streamed above the actual podcasts I listen to) and reflection (see: your entire timel...

Fortnite Introduces New Social Spaces Called “Party Worlds”

Fortnite has unveiled a new “Party Worlds” experience, which is designed for players “to hang out, play fun mini-games, and make new friends,” according to the Epic Games title. Though players can already meet in Hubs, their primary purpose is to surface engaging content and islands to help users find new creative experiences. Unlike Hubs, Party Worlds do not link to other islands, and they do not act as a discovery tool. Additionally, Fortnite is allowing players to create their own Party Worlds and has already shared two examples of spaces created in collaboration with players: Walnut World by fivewalnut (Island code: 9705-9549-4193), which resembles an amusement park, and Late Night Lounge by TreyJTH (Island code: 8868-0043-1912), which acts as an all-night club for after-hour...

Dave Grohl, Greg Kurstin Cover Van Halen’s ‘Jump’ for Fourth Night of ‘Hanukkah Sessions’

On the fourth night of Hanukkah and in the latest edition of the Hanukkah Sessions, Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin took on Van Halen’s “Jump.” [embedded content][embedded content] The song is a tribute to Van Halen’s Jewish frontman, David Lee Roth, who was previously immortalized in Adam Sander’s “Hanukkah Song.” The duo has performed covers of “Stay (I Missed You)” by Lisa Loeb, “Blitzkrieg Bop” by the Ramones, and “Copacabana” by Barry Manilow this Hanukkah so far, and there are four more nights of anticipating who they may cover next. Last year’s Hanukkah Sessions’ covers had a great range in various genres, and this year (so far) is prominently rock ‘n’ roll filled. But, hey, over here, no one’s complaining. With Kurstin’s helping hand to Adele’s recently released, widely-acclaimed ...

Billboard Explains: The Longest-Standing Billboard Chart Records

The Billboard charts have been a staple in the music industry since the 1940s and have kept records of the most-played songs, top-selling artists and what is most popular across a broad range of genres. With more than 80 years of data, the Billboard charts have encountered several impressive chart runs, starting with The Beatles. The Beatles haven’t released a new studio album since 1970’s Let It Be, but the foursome certainly made their mark in music history — decades later, the group still holds the record for the most No. 1 songs in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, with a total of 20 chart-toppers. In more recent years, Drake has dominated the charts and surpassed Madonna as the artist with the most top 10 hits on the Hot 100, with 54 songs in the top tier. The Weeknd is also a rec...
