Who Profits From the Posthumous Album Release?

“Do not continue anything in my name if I die. You got this on record,” Tyler, the Creator told XXL in October 2021. “If I ever die, I don’t want people to put my music out… [with] features with people I do not fuck with. The companies are over with. Everything’s done.” Amid a continuous tide of posthumous releases, where quality and quantity battle against each other in the streaming era, that sentiment is becoming louder. In fact, Tyler’s fellow Californian Anderson .Paak went as far as to tattoo his perspective across his right forearm back in August: “When I’m gone, please don’t release any posthumous albums or songs with my name attached. Those were just demos and never intended to be heard by the public.” Tyler and .Paak are two of the more outspoken artists on this increasingly...

Producer Adapting Rape Memoir Realizes Story Doesn’t Make Sense, Helps Clear Man’s Name

Timothy Mucciante was executive producing a film adaptation of Lucky, Alice Sebold’s 1999 memoir about being beaten and raped in 1981, when he noticed several issues with the subsequent trial that led to the conviction of Anthony J. Broadwater. Mucciante became so convinced that an injustice had occurred that he dropped out of the movie this past June, hired a private investigator, and turned over the findings to Broadwater’s lawyer. On Monday, as the New York Times reports, Broadwater was finally exonerated of the crime. Broadwater, now 61, was only 20 years old at the time of his arrest. He had returned home to Syracuse, New York from a stint in the Marines to spend time with his ill father. Throughout the trial, his father’s health worsened, and he died shortly after...

The Beatles: Get Back Is a Comprehensive Time Capsule of the Fab Four’s Last Hurrah: Review

The Pitch: In January of 1969, the Beatles, wearing by internal tensions and alienated through years of not touring together, attempted to do the impossible: get back together to craft not only a new album but to record it live in concert, without any overdubs or studio tricks. Not only that, they wanted to film a TV special to coincide with the album’s release, which necessitated the hiring of director Michael Lindsay-Hogg and the building of Twickenham Film Studios into an erstwhile rehearsal space. On top of all that, they had just four weeks to pull this all off. The results were bittersweet: The album was released to muted fanfare (though it’s since been reappraised), and the ambitious TV special was whittled down to a now-iconic live concert atop the roof of Apple headquarters. ...

Here’s How to Join the ‘Dragon Ball: The Breakers’ Closed Beta

Dragon Ball‘s new asymmetrical survival game The Breakers will be launching its closed beta test soon. Just like other games in the genre, Dragon Ball: The Breakers pits one central villain known as the Raider against seven Survivors who will try to fight for their lives and ultimately escape from the mysterious dimensional plane they’re trapped in called a Temporal Seam. To get away, the Survivors will have to find the Super Time Machine while delaying the Raider’s onslaught through collecting different weapons, vehicles, and upgrades throughout the map. The longer it takes, the more powerful the villain becomes, and with each evolution, the Raider also gets to destroy a portion of the map, so the seven will definitely want to work quickly. For the Dragon Ball fans out there, yo...

Embers Of War – ETERNITY’S END

RATING: 8/10 Someone at PROSTHETIC RECORDS deserves a pat on the back for continuing to explore the cutting edge of traditional heavy metal. Following on from stellar releases from PALADIN and JUDICATOR, “Embers Of War” shines a well-deserved beam onto the brilliance of ETERNITY’S END, a German quintet with two excellent previous albums that received widespread acclaim but far less media attention than they plainly deserved. Now rightfully embedded at one of modern metal’s best-respected labels, they have wasted no time in producing an album designed to incinerate eyebrows from a mile away. ETERNITY’S END, to put it more simply, will rip your fucking face off. This is nobly traditional stuff, rooted in progressive and power metal but imbued with the tooth-ratt...

During an appearance on MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn‘s “No Fuckin’ Regrets With Robb Flynn” podcast, founding JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing, who turned 70 last month, discussed the fact that he has never been married. He said: “I’ve kind of made a mess of the whole thing, really. I’ve gotta take the blame. ‘Cause they can’t all be wrong,” he explained, referring to his former girlfriends. Downing went on to say that he found it especially difficult to settle down during PRIEST‘s heyday in the late 1980s. “It was hard to make a commitment when you go to the next town and you meet some nice girls,” he said. “And then you get to a certain age, and things change [laughs] — things change a lot.” ...
