Lil Nas X is one again making headlines, this time as one of GQ‘s Men of the Year cover model. The Grammy-winning singer has been announced as one of three cover headlines for this year’s GQ Men of the Year covers alongside 2021 NBA Champion Giannis Antetokounmpo and Spider-Man actor Tom Holland. Since coming out as gay in 2019, Lil Nas X has been outspoken about the evolution of the rap industry when it comes to LGBTQ representation. In the GQ interview he shared his thoughts regarding LGBTQ issues and what it is like being a queer entertainer, “I do feel like this newer generation of rappers who are coming in, and the ones who are here, are going to have to reshape their thoughts. Because change is happening. There’s going to be so many gay rappers. There’s going to be more trans people ...
Veteran dance music producer LouCii has unveiled “Running Back,” an electrifying house banger built for the clubs. Elements of both electro and bass house pervade LouCii’s latest original track, which is out now by way of LouCii’s own Lalee Records label. “Running Back” has a bombastic, foot-tapping bass line paired with its punchy four-on-the-floor rhythm. The drops here are downright mean, chock full of menacing bass patches, crisp saws, and bouncy percussion designed for cutting shapes. After the first drop concludes, LouCii introduces infectious sound design in the break to add dimension to the arrangement. It’s here where the song’s catchy refrain kicks in (“I keep ’em running back”), stepping in unison with breakbeat-inspire...
Tate Sedar has unveiled his latest dance music stunner, a bubbly single called “Heaven.” Released independently, “Heaven” is a love letter sealed in a future bass anthem. Just like its name suggests, its an ethereal ballad at its core, but it doubles as a club-ready house jam. “Heaven” strikes that elusive contrast between melancholic and uplifting, thanks to Sedar’s pretty production. His use of vocoders is a nice touch in the verses, adding a warm layer to the sugarcoated lyrics and tugging at the heartstrings. Fans of Don Diablo’s HEXAGON brand will gravitate to this one thanks to its honeyed drop, which features pitched vocal chops and a bouncy electropop arrangement. He performed on the same bill with Diablo at the EDC Virtual...
With his new remix of Dolly Parton‘s “Jolene,” Destructo is officially EDM’s latest superstar to pop on a pair of cowboy boots and try his hand at a lil’ country twang. Only in this case, the boots are probably pink, paired with rhinestones and a V-neck for good measure. Out via RCA and Sony Music, Destructo’s version is one of the only official “Jolene” remixes to ever grace the ears of the public and, according to Parton in a press release, it’s her favorite. “It makes me want to dance!” she said. Notably, this isn’t the Queen of Country’s first foray into electronic music. In 2019, her collaboration with Galantis and Mr. Probz, “Faith,” topped the charts with its of-the-moment tro...
During an appearance on a recent episode of Bill Burr‘s “Monday Morning” podcast, former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted was asked if there was a particular concert that stood out in his mind as being particularly memorable. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “The ones that have been glorified over time and sensationalized, like the big Russian show and that stuff — unforgettable, of course, [and] quite well documented. But there’s other ones that are personally huge for us as a unit. Day On The Green in Oakland [on] October 12 of ’91. That was [legendary concert promoter] Bill Graham‘s last proper show that he put on — period. That’s a big goddamn deal to Bay Area, man. He took a chance on METALLICA back in ’82, ’...
Former MACHINE HEAD and current VIO-LENCE guitarist Phil Demmel filled in for Dave Linsk at OVERKILL‘s November 13 concert at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey. The gig marked OVERKILL‘s first pandemic-era performance — “609 f!!kin’ days” after they were supposed to play the same venue before the coronavirus crisis forced everything to shut down. When Demmel‘s participation in the concert was first announced two weeks ago, OVERKILL singer Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth commented: “We had a few issues getting this rescheduled show together. But to hell with the issues, we all have problems. And wouldn’t you know it, our bro and yours Phil Demmel to the rescue. The show must and will go on. See you at the Welmomt Jersey…&...
SLAYER guitarist Kerry King and his wife have relocated to New York City. Ayesha King broke the news of the move in an Instagram post earlier today. She wrote: “I suppose it’s time to tell you all that the King and I have moved to NYC ( back home for me, excited to be near my family again ). I figured I’d beat some acquaintance’s friend buddy who it heard it from a guy to announce it and think he’s cool. I served my time on the west coast for 18 years. Time to be back in the best city on earth.” It was reported back in April 2020 that Kerry and his wife paid $3.81 million for a home in a section of the Las Vegas Valley known as Enterprise. Clark County property records still list the couple as the owners of the 5,116-square-foot house. Last month, Kerry ...
Earlier this month, THE HALO EFFECT, the new project featuring five former members of the Swedish metal band IN FLAMES — Jesper Strömblad (guitar), Daniel Svensson (drums), Peter Iwers (bass), Niclas Engelin (guitar) and Mikael Stanne (vocals) — released its debut single, “Shadowminds”. The track, the official music video for which can be seen below, will appear on THE HALO EFFECT‘s first album, due in 2022 via Nuclear Blast. Regarding how THE HALO EFFECT came together, Stanne told the “Heavy Hops” podcast (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “This is basically all my old friends from the area. Gothenburg is small, and it’s always been very incestuous in terms of members, back and forth, in bands. “I got asked by Niclas Engelin, who I’...
Courtney Barnett stopped by The Ellen Degeneres Show on Monday (November 15th) to promote her masterful new album, Things Take Time, Take Time. During her performance, the Australian singer-songwriter played the album cut, “Write a List of Things to Look Forward To.” While joined on stage by Things Take Time co-producer Stella Mozgawa on drums, Cate Le Bon on bass, and Zach Dawes on keys, Barnett delivered an excellent rendition of the track, which covers themes of gratitude and the progression of life toward death. “A baby is born/ As a man lay dying,” she sings on the second verse. “As a man lay dying/ And so on it goes.” Watch Courtney Barnett’s Ellen performance of “Write a List of Things to Look Forward To” below. The program will air on KCRW, the popular NPR affiliate based in Santa Monica, California. For now, it is limited to one episode on Friday, November 26th at 6 p.m. PST.
