Source: Alexandre Morin-Laprise / Getty The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or the Super NES, was a groundbreaking game system in its time. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the SNES might be responsible for the explosion of gaming in the US as it helped launch as well as reinforce some of the largest brands in gaming. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System first arrived in the United States on August 23, 1991, in a limited release before getting an official nationwide release date of September 9, 1991. The SNES was Nintendo’s answer to Sega’s 16-bit console, the Sega Genesis. The SNES would sell 23.35 million consoles in the United States and 49 million worldwide thanks to games like Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and more. Thousands of games lived on the console, but we...

Try not to get triggered, Philadelphia Eagles fans. Despite growing up in the Philly area, Marshmello, a “lifelong fan of the Silver and Black” according to the Raiders, appeared at halftime during the team’s Sunday Night Football showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs last night. The masked hit-maker threw down an electrifying DJ set at Wynn Field Club, a posh nightclub situated in the north endzone at Allegiant Stadium. The 11,000-square foot entertainment venue spans the length of the entire endzone and features a 45,000-watt sound system, multiple bars, and two DJ booths. Mello’s high-energy performance didn’t translate onto the field for the Raiders, who got smoked by the Chiefs thanks to a 406-yard, 5-touchdown performance from 2019 Super Bowl MVP P...
On a personal level, Mike Posner has likened the loss of Avicii and his father to being doused with a bucket of ice water in the middle of the night. The sobering events resulted in a near instantaneous shift in the Grammy-nominated artist’s perspective, inspiring him to break the comforts of his daily life in ways few would expect—and even fewer would attempt to replicate. Nowadays, pushing aside the cushy comforts of a Top 40 artist is becoming second nature for Posner, who is learning to appreciate the trials and triumphs of each passing moment. Posner summarizes his outlook with “Amor Fati,” a near and dear phrase which translates to “love of fate” in latin. In an exclusive interview with EDM.com, Posner candidly reflected on his rel...

Former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman, who has been living and recording music in Japan since 2003, recently took part in the fourth event in Cardiff University’s Cardiff-Japanese Lecture Series where he spoke about how the mastery of the Japanese language unlocked opportunities for his life and career. You can now watch the question-and-answer session below. Asked if he experiences culture shock when he returns to his former home country of America, Marty said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “When I moved to Japan, I completely was encompassed by Japanese culture. No one I worked with spoke English. No one around me spoke English. The only time I spoke English was when I was doing international promotion or international tours or international interviews. So 24/7, it ...
RATING: 8.5/10 A classic example of a great metal band who are perennially taken for granted, HYPOCRISY have been incredibly consistent over the years. There has also been an unwavering dedication to standing apart from the death metal crowd evident in the band’s music, and not just through Peter Tägtgren‘s undisputed mastery of production and mixing. Even as early as seminal albums like “Abducted” (released a mind-blowing quarter of a century ago!), HYPOCRISY‘s chrome-plated take on melodic but brutal death metal sounded both futuristic and endearingly impervious to deathly fashion. And there is something undeniably pleasing about the fact that, once again, “Worship” is another explosive and imaginative HYPOCRISY album that sounds like absolutely ...
KORN frontman Jonathan Davis spoke to Carlota of Audacy Check In about the band’s upcoming album, “Requiem”, which will arrive on February 4, 2022 via Loma Vista Recordings. The official music video for the disc’s first single, “Start The Healing”, directed by Tim Saccenti (FLYING LOTUS, RUN THE JEWELS, DEPECHE MODE), was made available last week. Speaking about how “Start The Healing” and the rest of “Requiem” compares to previous KORN material, Davis said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “It’s different. We’re always constantly evolving. There’s still our core sound there. But this time we did this, we had the luxury, we were on a forced timeout; we had all the time in the world. “Every single ...
In a new interview with This Day In Metal, David Ellefson was asked if he envisions a day when bands like MEGADETH and SLAYER will finally get inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The former MEGADETH bassist responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Here’s the funny thing: out of all the people, I’m probably most supportive of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. And here’s why: because I’m already in it. And here’s how — and it’s not because I walked in and got inducted. “In the late ’90s, we did a big auction on [MEGADETH‘s official web site] Megadeth.com and we sold off a ton of gear that we had at our storage unit here in Arizona, when the band was based here at that time,” he continued. “And a fan bough...
