Shakira‘s Laundry Service was a game-changer. The Colombian star’s first bilingual (Spanish and English) album not only became her best-selling set, but it also took her career to another level. Going from Latin America’s sweetheart to a global pop star sensation, Laundry Service debuted and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 (Dec. 1, 2001 chart), and it gave Shak her first hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “Whenever, Wherever” peaked at No. 6, “Underneath Your Clothes” peaked at No. 9 and “Objection (Tango)” landed on No. 55. The special album also came with an image change for the singer/songwriter. Ditching her black hair and “good girl” look, Shakira debuted her golden blonde locks, which came with a b...
The members of Brass Against were just as shocked as festival goers when singer Sophia Urista peed on the face of a fan during their set at Welcome to Rockville. The band issued an apology on Twitter following the incident. “We had a great time last night at Welcome to Rockville,” they wrote. “Sophia got carried away. That’s not something the rest of us expected, and it’s not something you’ll see again at our shows. Thanks for bringing it last night, Daytona.” In a since-deleted tweet the group added: “We’re truly sorry. Not who we are as a band.” Brass Against is a covers band known for performing brass renditions of rock songs, and Urista’s antics took place during a cover of Rage Against the Machine‘s “Wake Up.” After reportedly making several comments about how much she had to pee, the...

Halloween might be over, but Run the Jewels are carrying tricks and treats through November. The hip-hop duo have today shared the music video for “Never Look Back,” a cut from their knockout 2020 album, RTJ4. The clip stars RTJ’s Killer Mike and El-P in a reimagining of George Romero’s 1968 horror touchstone, Night of the Living Dead. Directed by John Hillcoat, the “Never Look Back” video premiered as part of the Adult Swim Festival livestream on Friday. Shot in grainy black-and-white, it finds RTJ in the midst of a zombie uprising, spliced seamlessly with clips from the original film. You’ll see familiar scenes with the Night of the Living Dead cast (who, in this retelling, hilariously watch an RTJ performance on their retro TV), as well as cameos from The Walking Dead’s Norman Reed...
File this under things we didn’t particularly need to know: Dwayne Johnson has opened up in a new interview about the reason he chooses to pee in a water bottle when he’s at the gym. “Well, yeah, the headline is actually true; I do pee in my water bottles, but let me give context to that,” the star told Esquire while referencing a recent headline from Men’s Health that went viral. “‘Cause everyone’s leaning in now to what this means. It’s not a water bottle that I’ve actually purchased solely for water that you wash and you clean when you’re done using it.” He clarified: “These are just bottles that I’m no longer using. And usually the gyms that I work out in don’t have a bathroom…There’s no bathroom there, it’s just hot, sweaty, and dirty. I usually stay pretty hydrated; I need to go to t...

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Travis Matthews courtesy of Self / SELF Magazine If you’re thinking of any broken heart jokes, just stop right now. La La Anthony recently revealed that she had emergency heart surgery back in June. The actress and now Carmelo Anthony’s ex-wife made the reveal in her cover story for Self magazine. “I felt my heart racing all the time, but because it’s all I ever really knew, I didn’t even know that it was necessarily something wrong,” Anthony told Self. “I just thought, ‘Oh, you just feel your heart racing sometimes because you’re working too much, you haven’t slept, you’re stressed.’ You know, we, especially Black people, like to self-diagnose. We got all the answers.” However, it turned out La La was suffering from with premature ventricular contraction...
Run the Jewels‘ “Never Look Back” video is quite the ode to Night of the Living Dead. So much so that they’re literally dropped into the narrative of George Romero’s classic 1968 film. The black-and-white clip begins with the movie’s protagonists Barbara and Ben driving to the cemetery. In a separate shot, we see RTJ’s car break down in the middle of a nowhere. Those who’ve seen the movie know what happens next to the young couple. Meanwhile Killer Mike and El-P tell their own story of fending off zombies, with cameos from The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus and Day of the Dead’s Greg Nicotero. But do they suffer the same fate? Watch the John Hillcoat-directed “Never Look Back” video, which premiered during the Adult Swim Festival, below to find out. [embedded content][embedded cont...
We all conjure dream music festival lineups in our heads, but a new app called Anthems is taking it a step further. When first launching Anthems, the app requests access to your Spotify account. From there, they are able to access your playlists and listening history. Anthems then takes your most-listened-to artists of all-time and constructs a festival lineup comprising a handful of those you just couldn’t stop rinsing. To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I learned it would be digging through my crates. But I was pleasantly surprised by all of the selections and would be willing to pay top dollar to check out this lineup, regardless of how strange it would be to see ILLENIUM and Boombox Cartel at a music festival with The 1975 and Ca...
