Lil Nas X Gets What He Wants at the Top of the Song Breaker Chart

Debuting at No. 3 on the chart is Chef Boylee (@chefboylee), who used Pink Soldier’s track “23” to hop on the dalgona challenge in a full Squid Game wardrobe. The chef-turned-creator has amassed a huge social following for his mouthwatering cooking videos that combine techniques gleaned from her years in Michelin-starred kitchens as well as his Korean heritage. His savvy fusion of what everyone was watching—Squid Game—with his expert skills as a chef and creator had all the ingredients of a viral hit, and it paid off with a spot on the Song Breaker chart. Rounding out the top 5 are Brooklyn van Zandt (@houseofbrooklyn) and Christian Locke (@christianrlocke) who are both on the Song Breaker chart for the first time. Brooklyn used Soft Cell’s classic new wave track “Tainted Love” as the back...

Walker Hayes’ ‘Fancy Like’ Tops Country Airplay Chart: ‘The Impossible Can Happen’

“Fancy Like” is Hayes’ seventh Country Airplay entry. His output includes one additional top 10, “You Broke Up With Me,” which hit No. 10 in January 2018. Meanwhile, Monument lands its first Country Airplay No. 1 since Sony Music Entertainment revived the label in 2017. Formed in 1958 (in Washington, D.C., and named for the Washington Monument), it notched six leaders in 1998-2003, all by The Chicks. On the airplay-, sales- and streaming-based Hot Country Songs survey, “Fancy Like” dominates for a 17th week. Buzz for the track, which shouts out Applebee’s menu highlights and sparked a commercial synch with the chain, grew early on thanks to TikTok, where Hayes, whose following on the platform has surged to over 2 million, has posted multiple ...

STEVE PERRY On His Appearance With JOURNEY At 2017 ROCK HALL Induction: It Was ‘One Of The Most Fun Things I’ve Ever Done’

Steve Perry reunited with JOURNEY for the first time in years in April 2017 as they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The iconic singer appeared onstage with his former bandmates as they each gave speeches, but did not perform with the group later in the event. In a new interview with ABC Audio, Perry reflected on the experience, saying: “It turned out to be one of the most fun things I’ve ever done.” He added that he was initially reluctant to make an appearance because “it had been so many years and the band’s moved on” and he didn’t want to make JOURNEY‘s current lead singer, Arnel Pineda, feel uneasy. “I love Arnel and I thought, y’know, out of respect for him and just where they’d gone, I thought I woul...

Sparked by the 50th anniversary of Led Zeppelin IV and “Stairway to Heaven,” seasoned, deep-dive journalist and book author Bob Spitz set out to write the ultimate account of one of the most legendary bands of rock ‘n roll. The author of previous bestsellers The Beatles: The Biography, and Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child, Spitz was undeterred by the more than 100 books already out there on the band. And he took his time to get things right. “I spent five years tracking people down and writing this book, following every lead, and there are 35 pages of source notes at the back of the book, so the reader will know exactly where every quote and detail comes from.” I spoke with Bob about the reason his is the essential Zep biography, why they’re not “golden gods”, and why he was, as ...

Are BTS Getting Ready to Drop A New Album? A Brief Investigation

Buckle up, everyone: the biggest group on the planet seems to be gearing up for a new release. BTS may not have dropped a full-length album in 2021, but that hasn’t stopped them from breaking records and dominating the charts with their two singles, “Butter” and “Permission to Dance.” The Bangtan Boys have been a bit quiet lately — and sure, that could be because they just wrapped their Permission to Dance online concert, or because they’re preparing for their upcoming stint at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. This is the longest break BTS has ever taken between albums as the one-year mark approaches since the release of the tender, pandemic-era BE. Early 2020 also included the massive release of Map of the Soul: 7, so it’s been a while since fans had a full album to unpack. ARMY has...

Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe and DevilDriver’s Dez Fafara Back New Cryptocurrency Chakra Coin

Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe and DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara have backed a new cryptocurrency called Chakra Coin. While many bands have been dabbling in crypto via NFTs, Blythe and Fafara have gone a step further, investing in a brand-new cryptocurrency. According to a press release, the Chakra Coin was designed to “foster community and invest in charitable causes.” It will be a fully community-owned “deflationary token,” which decreases in its market supply as time goes by and allows for passive income generation. This factor implies that users or the project’s team will participate in activities that reduce the coin’s supply on the blockchain (per Yahoo). Essentially, as the coin is purchased and traded, its value will increase, rendering profits that can put toward char...
