Astroworld Fest Confirms Saturday Is Canceled Following Friday Night Tragedy

According to Houston Fire Department Chief Samuel Peña at a press conference, the “mass casualty” event occurred at 9:38 p.m. local time at Houston’s NRG Park. Estimating the crowd’s attendance at around 50,000, Peña said trouble started shortly after 9 p.m. when “the crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage and that caused some panic and started causing some injuries. People began to fall out and become unconscious and that created additional panic.” Per Peña, Astroworld’s medical tent and staff was “quickly overwhelmed” by the scale of the incident, after which the Houston fire department stepped in and dispatched 50 units. Travis Scott — who brought out Drake as a surprise guest during his Astroworld...

JUDAS PRIEST’s ROB HALFORD On Still Performing At Age 70: ‘I Genuinely From The Heart Do Not Want It To End

In a new interview with Decibel magazine, JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford reflected on the fact that he is still performing and recording five decades after the band’s inception. “Most people in England are retired at 50,” the 70-year-old singer said. “You put your feet up; it’s the end. You start puttering around your garden and sitting in your deck chair with a cup of tea. It’s true that you thought back then that rock ‘n’ roll was a young man’s adventure, that even 50 is a stretch. “There was a little kid at a [PRIEST] recent show. He was on his dad’s shoulders, and he knew all the words to all these PRIEST songs. He was like eight years old. I brought him up on the stage and signed his shirt. And that’s when I go...

Nation of Language on Finding Their Momentum Over the Pandemic: “It Feels Like Winning the Lottery”

Several years ago, Ian Devaney found his NYC musical project at a standstill. “At one point, it was like half the band suddenly and separately moved to Los Angeles,” he says. “I was like, ‘Oh, I guess this has run its course, because everyone’s gone.’” Luckily, Devaney found, well, a way forward (pun intended). In addition to his longtime collaborator and bassist Michael Sue-Poi, Devaney’s wife Aiden Noell joined the band on synths, and Nation of Language was born. It was not without hardship — after releasing their debut album Introduction, Presence in early 2020, the pandemic set in and left the band without any shows to play: “We always felt like the live show was the thing that would really kind of capture people’s attention and imagination… how would anyone ever find this r...

Mastodon Apologize for Brent Hinds’ Use of Homophobic Slur, Insist Band Has “No Ill Will Towards Disturbed”

Yesterday, Mastodon singer-guitarist Brent Hinds made headlines when he expressed his disdain for touring with Disturbed on the Mayhem Festival outing in 2008. In the course of insulting his fellow metal band, he used a homophobic slur. Now, singer-drummer Brann Dailor has apologized on behalf of Mastodon for Hinds’ offensive language, while also insisting that his band has “no ill will towards Disturbed.” As we previously reported, HInds was asked on Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta’s podcast if there were any bucket-list bands he’d like to tour with. Instead, he chose to focus on bands with whom he regretted touring. “I did a lot of tours I didn’t want to do, though, like Disturbed and all that Mayhem stupid bullshit,” remarked Hinds, before using the offensive slur: “Gay ass shit.” He con...

Of Monsters and Men Reflect on the “Beautiful, Dark Forest” of My Head Is an Animal at 10

It’s been a decade since Of Monsters and Men released their debut album My Head Is an Animal in their home country of Iceland in September 2011. The success of the LP and its rollicking lead single “Little Talks” led to a deal with Republic Records, over a million records sold, a permanent spot on the festival circuit both in Europe and Stateside, and an enduring, fervent fanbase. “It’s a super special album,” Ragnar (“Raggi”) Þórhallsson, the group’s co-lead vocalist/guitarist, tells Consequence over Zoom. “I’ve always cared for it — the simplicity of it is that it’s hard to create something simple and beautiful, and I think that album is that.” Released internationally in April 2012, My Head Is an Animal grabbed listeners not just for its catchy melodies, but for the group’s sense of adv...

For our favorite new songs from emerging artists, check out our Spotify New Sounds playlist. This week, Radiohead dig out a fan favorite.  Even if they’re been one of the most consistent rock bands to have emerged in the 1990s, you’d be hard-pressed to find a Radiohead fan who didn’t want even more Radiohead. Thom Yorke and company know they have hundreds and thousands of listeners wrapped around their finger, and rightfully so. “Follow Me Around,” a deep cut recorded during the band’s OK Computer sessions and officially released this week, only further evidences the alt-rock legends’ hot streak in the late ‘90s and early aught...

JAY-Z Says Kanye West’s Comments About ‘The Blueprint’ and Just Blaze Are “Unfair”

JAY-Z recently did an interview on Twitter Spaces and spoke about Kanye West‘s recent Drink Champs interview. While much of Ye’s conversation revolved around targeting some of his peers in the industry, Jay was most taken aback by his remarks regarding Just Blaze and The Blueprint. Jay’s sixth studio album The Blueprint featured several producers including Kanye West and Just Blaze. In his interview, Ye was asked to choose he thought to be the better producer, Swizz Beatz or Blaze. The rapper then went on to rant that Blaze was just a copycat on Jay’s record. However, Hov took to Twitter to debunk the myth stating, “Nore sent me a piece and I’ve seen a couple pieces.
