After speaking on his relationship with Kim Kardashian West, as well as throwing shade on Big Sean by saying that signing the rapper was “the worst thing” he’s done, those who have paid attention will notice that Kanye West also spoke about his relationship with Def Jam Records — or apparent lack of one — on the Drink Champs podcast. Taking to the mic, ‘Ye said “I’m off of it now,” in response to being asked about his supposed 10 contracts. He goes on to note situations that evolved after being involved in “10 contracts,” and how “everybody that supposedly cared for me knew I had 10 contracts,” and that “one of my skill sets is not reading, one of my skill sets is not counting.” So it seems that West may not be involved with the legendary record label anymore, one which has helped him rele...
By Max Freedman It’s easy to forget that Lindsey Jordan, the frontperson of esteemed Baltimore indie-rock band Snail Mail, was literally a teenager during her breakout moment – until she reminds you in the most subtly brutal way. “I was really overwhelmed by a lot of decisions that I had to make,” she tells MTV News about the months surrounding the release of her career-making debut album, 2018’s Lush, “and I was leaving high school.” The contrast is striking: Being a musician who tours, does press, maintains a steady social media presence, and hires a huge team requires lots of big choices that non-musicians might not understand. Jordan had to make those choices right as she legally became an adult. Many of the songs on her Lush follow-up, Valentine, boast flashes of this tension between ...

Both shows were recorded in Texas, and in a statement announcing the releases, the group said “abortion is embraced as health care and a human right.” Sales from both live records will benefit Fund Texas Choice and the Abortion Support Network, and the previously unreleased shows are available to stream today via Bandcamp. The first album is from their November 15, 1995 performance at the Austin Music Hall, from Sonic Youth’s Washing Machine tour. The second captures their June 24, 2006 show at the Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas, a part of their Rather Ripped tour. They also have revealed three vintage Texas conc...
Lorde has shared two Solar Power bonus tracks: “Helen of Troy” and “Hold No Grudge.” “These songs were fun explorations on the album journey,” Lorde said in a release. “They didn’t quite fit into the tracklist for whatever reason but they’re both big tunes.” Of “Helen of Troy,” she said: “We wrote it super quickly in the tiniest room at Westlake where we did a bunch of Melo and it was fun the whole time. It’s super off the cuff lyrically, almost ad-libbed, and you can hear me starting to figure out some album themes.…” On the other hand, the Grammy-winner describes “Hold No Grudge” as a “sort of composite portrait of when relationships turn sour, being trapped in the ice but remembering the warmth.” Earlier this week, Lorde released a music video for another Solar Power ...
