John Cooper, the frontman and bassist for the Grammy-nominated Christian rock band SKILLET, has offered a surprisingly strong defense of Dave Chappelle amid the uproar over the comedian’s Netflix special. Critics have decried “The Closer” as “dangerously transphobic” over several of Chappelle‘s jokes, specifically around the “thin skin” of trans people and the effects of so-called “cancel culture.” Transgender writer-producer Jaclyn Moore said she would no longer work for Netflix while the National Black Justice Coalition, a civil rights group dedicated to the empowerment of the black LGBTQ community, asked the streaming service to remove the special from the platform. Cooper addressed the controversy surrounding “The Closer...
During a recent appearance on SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation L.A. Invasion”, Nikki Sixx discussed the fact that GUNS N’ ROSES apparently once considered recording a cover version of the early MÖTLEY CRÜE song “Stick To Your Guns”. The CRÜE bassist said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “After we took them out on tour, and they first put out ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, or was it ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’, I remember going to the Rainbow [in West Hollywood], and I saw Axl [Rose, GN’R singer] there. And he jumped up and he said ‘hi’ and ‘thanks for the tour. Thanks for the tour because now MTV is gonna play ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’.’ It really gave ’em a shot. And I was super stok...

NOISIA won’t let the pandemic get in the way of their grand finale. Considering COVID-19 forced the cancelations of many festivals around the world over the past two years, many artists are working to make up performances. NOISIA found themselves in a peculiar situation after they announced in late 2019 that 2020 would be their last year together as a trio. This, of course, included their farewell tour which was postponed due to the global health crisis. The trio are currently in the midst of their international farewell tour. This included shows up until December 16th, 2021, when they are set to play a final concert in their home country of the Netherlands. However, to the delight of their fans, they’re not quite ready to split. NOISIA took to social media to release a st...
Lucy Dacus preached her true feelings about vacation bible school while rocking out on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night. [embedded content][embedded content] Singing “VBS” off her recently released Home Video, Dacus begins serenading the crowd as if they were children at a Christian summer camp. Way too many flashbacks crawled out from the deep parts of my brain as Dacus reminisced on the summer of ’07—befriending the preacher in a t-shirt, being told to “spread the word,” and worshipping before bed. With faux stained glass windows behind her and all musicians bearing white cloaks, Dacus tangibly furthers the aura of “VBS,” alongside the theme of reason behind both the church and her track. Your dad keeps his sleeves down through the summer for a reasonYour mother wea...
U2 just released a track off the forthcoming Sing 2 movie soundtrack, “Your Song Saved My Life.” This is the band’s proper release since “Ahimsa” where they teamed with A.R. Rahman in 2019 (No, Martin Garrix’s song with Bono and The Edge for Euro 2020 doesn’t count). The original song is featured in the upcoming movie, in which Bono himself made his animated film debut as the voice of Clay Calloway. Sing 2 is in theaters on December 22, and its soundtrack comes out on December 17, which is available for pre-order. [embedded content][embedded content] This isn’t the first time U2 has written an original track for a movie, as the band has received two Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song for “The Hands That Built America” from Gangs of New York in 2003 and “Ordinar...
alt-J are back with “Get Better,” the second single from their forthcoming album The Dream. The plaintive song is essentially a two-hander, with dummer Thom Sonny Green sitting this one out. Instead, Joe Newman strums out gentle acoustic notes while Gus Unger-Hamilton joins in with harmonies and subtle piano. As Newman describes it, the track “is the union of two songs.” One was a little improvisation he sang to his partner, Darcy Wallace, back in 2018: “Get better, my Darcy/ I know you can.” The second was a chord progression written during lockdown while Newman thought of the thousands of bereaved around the world. “I felt nervous heat when writing ‘Get Better,” Newman said in a press statement. “The context of the Coronavirus pandemic lent my words a chilling weight and gave me a new se...
