If the Day 1 theme of Rolling Loud New York 2021 was hometown rappers reigning supreme, the driving force on Friday (October 29th) was Mother Nature. Beginning as a crisp, overcast autumn day with winds strong enough to tip over garbage cans, it started drizzling around 7:30 p.m. before giving way to a full-blown rainstorm shortly after J. Cole took the main stage at 8:45. The Dreamville founder was unfazed by the weather, giving an all-time performance that those in attendance will never forget. Meanwhile, City Girls and Ski Mask the Slump God carried stage presences that demanded reciprocal energy from the crowd, Wale showed the breadth of his catalog after an unplanned set time switch, and Bas gave a sneak peek of his boss’ headlining set while playing his most popular cuts to a lo...

At around 15, Lunay started making music after reconsidering his first goal of playing professional soccer. From the time he started experimenting with his sound as a teenager, he discovered an innate ear for catchy hooks. His melodic approach to reggaetón puts him in line with the legacy of a predecessor like Daddy Yankee, who brought reggaetón’s signature dem bow rhythm to radios all over the world before Lunay was in grade school, and Bad Bunny whose inventive take on the genre has made him arguably the most visible person doing it. Lunay’s sound is smoother, and more R&B influenced, a take that makes his boyish good looks and steady commitment to learning new ways to write and record a perfect foundation for taking reggaetón in new and exciting directions. The future of music is in...

Five former members of the Swedish metal band IN FLAMES — Jesper Strömblad (guitar), Daniel Svensson (drums), Peter Iwers (bass), Niclas Engelin (guitar) and Mikael Stanne (vocals) — have launched a new project called THE HALO EFFECT. So far, only a promotional photo of the new outfit has been released, with the promise of more information to follow soon. A founding member of IN FLAMES, Strömblad quit the band in February 2010 in order to continue receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction. Five years ago, Jesper slammed his former bandmates, calling the group a “sinking ship” and saying IN FLAMES singer Anders Fridén has “never been a songwriter.” Svensson, who joined IN FLAMES in 1998, announced in 2015 that he was leaving the group to focus on his family life....

Welsh metallers BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE will release their new, self-titled studio album on November 5. The follow-up to 2018’s “Gravity” was previously described by frontman Matt Tuck as “brutal, heavy and technical” as well as “more visceral and passionate than it’s ever been.” Asked in a new interview with A&P Reacts if it was a conscious decision to make a more aggressive album than before, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE guitarist Michael “Padge” Paget said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “We started writing heavy right from the start, and it just got heavier and heavier. Once we realized we were gonna make an aggressive record, there was no stopping us. We had a direction, we knew what sort of road it was gonna go do...
Londoners are banding together to save one of the city’s most beloved clubs. A petition has been launched in an attempt to stop the world-renowned Printworks from converting to office space. According to an application submitted to the City of London, the venue was intended to be a temporary event space for five years before more development could occur. That proposal was accepted in December 2016, so there is a need for an extension or permanent transformation. It’s interesting to note that many supporters have questioned why more office spaces are needed since many jobs have shifted to work-from-home models. They’ve also stated that the area has many office spaces already available and asked why more are necessary. The petition is quite popular with fans of the ve...
The Bloody Beetroots cannot be held responsible for speeding tickets obtained while listening to his new EP. Late last summer, a new motorcycle simulator, RiMS Racing, hit the market. While the game normally wouldn’t appeal to the EDM community, developers reached out to an electro house legend to craft its soundtrack. Released today was RiMS Racing Original Soundtrack by none other than Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo himself. Cover of the RiMS Racing Original Soundtrack by The Bloody Beetroots. RiMS Racing As you’d expect from The Bloody Beetroots, rapid-fire drums and whiplash-like synths take listeners on a trip towards the checkered flag. While high-energy tracks like “BULLY,” “BLOW,” “EASY,” and “EZEKIEL” will make fan...
