Big Sean No Longer Signed To Kanye’s GOOD Music Label

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Scott Dudelson / Getty A year and change after Desiigner announced his departure from Kanye West’s GOOD Music record label (the man was basically begging to be let go), Big Sean has now revealed that he too isn’t a part of Yeezus’ congregation. With the release of his latest Hit-Boy produced project What You Expect, the Detroit rapper did a Q&A with fans on Twitter last night (October 28) and dropped the bomb when he confirmed that this latest project is in fact on his own label, and not Kanye’s imprint, saying “By the way this the first project where I’m on my own label as well, no more lil dawg sh*t!!! I bossed up! #DONLIFE.” The move comes a year after Sean hinted that he was ready to move on from his old record label and begin his own followi...

Yung Miami Drops Heaux Tales And Sex Fantasies In New Video “Rap Freak”

MadameNoire Featured Video Source: Paras Griffin / Getty Yung Miami is out here showing her whole Hot Girl derrière on a new track titled, “Rap Freaks.” The highly-anticipated song and video was teased on Instagram over the past three days, leading up to its midnight release on Oct. 29. Risqué sizzle reels seen on the City Girl’s profile alluded to what was to come: a bed, kink, ass, whips, chains, BDSM gear, Yung Caresha’s thighs spread wide while she touches herself—you know—down there. Like it’s promo, the song leaves little to the imagination, and in less time than it takes for a two-minute brother to bust a nut, Miami runs down the sexual trysts she wouldn’t mind getting into with current rappers she wouldn’t mind getting it in with; like riding Megan Thee Stallion’s face “like a stal...

15 Minute Live Performances: Kate Vargas

The art of storytelling is a simple yet vital part of songwriting — in particular the lyrical part. It can make or break an artist and it’s something Kate Vargas is quite adept at. Though she’s admittedly mellowed in recent times, Vargas’ intricate, yet vibrant words continue to shine with energy and vigor. It’s apparent on many of the songs on Rumpumpo, her latest album, released in July, and a sterling effort that allows for her distinctive gravelly voice to shine alongside her blend of melodic folk and blues. Stepping back, the New Mexico-born, New York City-dwelling Vargas has been on many folks’ must-watch lists and with good reason. She’s dazzled crowds all over the world, notably Ireland’s Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival to The Troubadour in London, The Mansion on O Street in W...

Lily Konigsberg’s Spunky Songs Of Sadness

By Ted Davis If you follow underground rock music, there’s a good chance that you have at least heard the name Palberta. For 10 years, the New York City band worked hard to carve a niche for themselves in the indie scene, touting an angular, sludgy sound that falls somewhere between The Raincoats and Palm. At its front is Lily Konigsberg, a quirky songwriter whose energy and charisma carry the act’s distinctive attitude. Palberta’s work is minimal and lo-fi, but Konigsberg’s wonky musicianship and spunky vocals helped make them one of the most prolific and playfully bizarre outfits to emerge from the Northeast’s thriving punk circuit. Although Konigsberg has stayed busy making records and touring with Palberta, she carved out time on the side to write solo material. Where her work with the...

Bobby Shmurda Drops New Single “Cartier Lens”

Bobby Shmurda has returned to drop another new track. The 27-year-old rapper has gradually been making his return to music following his release from prison in February. The freestyle, titled “No Time for Sleep,” arrived with a music video of the Brooklyn rapper performing in a dimly-lit warehouse. Prior to that, Shmurda made his official return to the industry with a feature on a remix and video for Eladio Carrión’s “TATA” alongside Daddy Yankee and J Balvin. Now Shmurda has released a follow-up to the debut of his long-awaited comeback with “Cartier Lens.” The accompanying cover art is evocative of the rapper’s goals, picturing sunglasses with reflections of stacks of cash in...

The 50 Best Rock Bands Right Now

First, let’s take care of the obvious. Despite the still-persistent narrative that such music is “dead,” there are way more than 50 excellent rock bands out there. And there’s no exact science to scooping the cream of the crop. Our list includes arena-packing veterans but also semi-obscure indie acts who’ve barely escaped their basements. There are no hard rules here. Our methodology was simple: ask our writers and staff which rock bands feel worthy of recognition right now. But we did aim for a wide scope — throughout, you’ll find flavors of psych, post-punk, hardcore, metal, even country. If it feels like rock, it’s on the table. Consider SPIN‘s 2021 roundup — just like last year’s — a thermometer, taking the temperature of modern rock in all its various mutations. Altın Gün Ho...
