The War on Drugs Would Rather Rise Above With ‘Change’

The War On Drugs dropped “Change” off their upcoming record I Don’t Live Here Anymore, which is out this Friday, October 29. Mirroring the gritty, raspy vocal pull of Bruce Springsteen, lead singer Adam Granduciel pleads for a grasp of understanding: “I been living on the run, ’cause I can’t find / The thing that holds and binds us time / I’m out here dying in the heat / Oh, what am I to find?” Contrary to Blind Melon’s desperate call for a new direction in their own “Change,” The War On Drugs would rather rise above to avoid a steer in the course of love, chastening their own existence at the close of the track: “Maybe I was born too late for this lonely freedom fight / Maybe I was born in the wrong way / Maybe born on the wrong day.” [embedded content][embed...

Tom Holland Says ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Features One of His “Coolest Scenes Ever”

In a recent interview with Empire, Tom Holland revealed details regarding the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home film. While Marvel Studios has been known to keep many of its details under wraps, Holland was able to give fans a small glimpse of what was his favorite scene to film as the titular Peter Parker. The scene in discussion sees Peter Parker, Aunt May and Happy Hogan with a mystery fourth character sitting together having a discussion about what it is like to be a superhero. Holland says, “It’s four people sitting at a table, having a conversation about what it’s like to be a superhero and it was amazing.” He also adds, “The other day we watched the scene, my brother and I, and our jaws were on the floor.” While Holland has famously blabbed about certain spoilers, this time the actor...

Takin’ It Too Deep

Christian Slater and Lizzy caplan team up to voice the brilliant (unhinged) father and (on-the-edge) daughter Rand and Reagan Ridley, pivotal to running America’s shadow government, in Netflix’s new animated adult comedy, Inside Job.  The wild show is, at its heart, an office and family comedy. It focuses on Reagan’s work life, leading a team at Cognito Inc. that creates conspiracies and president-replacing robots (ROBOTUS), and her dysfunctional relationship at home with her father (who was forced out of the company, and now threatens the organization’s very existence by vlogging on YouTube).  Slater, 52, and Caplan, 39, spoke with SPIN about getting into the headspace of mad geniuses behind the running of the greatest superpower in the world, and tackling all sorts of conspirac...

The Posies Break Up as Ken Stringfellow Is Accused of Sexual Misconduct

The Posies are breaking up after three women accused the band’s Ken Stringfellow (who also has performed with R.E.M. and Big Star) of various forms of sexual misconduct. An in-depth story on the accusations against Stringfellow was published on Monday by KUOW, the University of Washington’s public radio station, which detailed disturbing and graphic events dating back to the 1990s. According to the KUOW, one of the accusers said that Stringfellow forcibly had sex with her in a men’s room at a hotel in San Francisco, while a second woman, who was sleeping in a hotel room upstairs when this occurred, said she was in an abusive relationship with Stringfellow that started in 2015. A third woman said that Stringfellow bit her arm as she drove him back from a show, leaving marks and bruising. Sh...

Difficult Fun: October 2021’s Best Punk

Welcome to the latest edition of Difficult Fun! Each month, SPIN will spotlight the best punk on the planet and discuss it here, with the ambition of challenging preconceived notions of what the four-letter word actually means and, ideally, entertaining readers in the process. Purists, piss off! Everyone else, enjoy. Happy Halloween, ya ghouls! Every day is a costume party when you live and breathe punk, if you really get down to it, so consider this month’s curated list themed. (If you put it on at a party, your friends won’t be disappointed. That is, assuming you have cool friends, and your party is about 34 minutes long. These are short, blistering tracks. Mostly.) I tend to treat All Hallows Eve like any other day, save for the coveted cover show (almost always a good idea if you’re no...

The covers dropped at a fitting time as original, archival footage of the Liverpudlians from those sessions is set to debut on the big screen for the first time ever in Peter Jackson’s The Beatles: Get Back documentary in November. “What a delight to convene in The Loft and assay two songs by that cool underground band The Beatles!
