This article originally appeared in the March 1991 issue of SPIN. It was like a scene out of Penelope Spheeris’s punk documentary, The Decline of Western Civilization. METALLICA’s JAMES HETFIELD Reportedly Sells Land In Arizona For $1.2 Million
According to TMZ, METALLICA frontman James Hetfield sold the 20 acres of vacant land he owned in Pima County, Arizona for $1.2 million. James bought the plot of land, which is near the United States border with Mexico, in 1998. Last month, Pima Community College was selected from a competitive field of community colleges across the country to receive $100,000 from METALLICA‘s All Within My Hands foundation as part of its Metallica Scholars initiative. James said in a 2016 interview that he moved his family from the San Francisco area, where he and METALLICA had been based for 35 years, to Vail, Colorado because he didn’t feel as if he belonged in the Bay Area anymore. “I kind of got sick of the Bay Area, the attitudes of the people there, a little bit,” he said. ...

Ryan Gosling could be suiting up as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie film. According to reports, the Canadian actor “is in final negotiations” to star opposite Margot Robbie, who will be taking on the role of Barbie. Gosling supposedly initially turned down the role due to his busy schedule, but as pre-production for Gerwig’s title “dragged out,” Warner Bros. continued to pursue him as Ken and his scheduled opened up, he began talks for the role. Bon Iver Unveils 2022 Tour Dates
Bon Iver has announced a new slate of 2022 tour dates. The band is set to kick off their 23-date U.S. tour on March 30, 2022 at the Mesa Amphiteatre in Mesa, Arizona follows by performances in areas like Austin, Miami, New York and Nashville before closing out the run in Asheville, North Carolina. Bon Iver will then fly to the U.K. and Europe in mid-October for shows in London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Madrid until early November. Haitink was known for interpretations without flash. “Haitink’s approach was more passionate than portentous, happily lacking in heaviness,” Associated Press critic Daniel J. Wakin wrote after a Brahms Symphony No. 2 with the Berlin Philharmonic at New York’s Carnegie Hall in 1991. Haitink developed a lengthy and influential career in England, where he was chief conductor of the London Philharmonic from 1969-79 and music director of the Glynebourne Festival from 1978-88.
