Lana Del Rey released her eighth studio album Blue Banisters on Friday, and just hours after it dropped she performed its single “Arcadia” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Shot in a remote location in black and white, the intimate performance kept its focus on Del Rey as she delivered the song’s introspective lyrics while piano played in the background. Watch the mesmerizing clip below. [embedded content][embedded content] Blue Banisters is Lana Del Rey’s second album in seven months, following March’s Chemtrails Over the Country Club. She began teasing the project soon after the release of Chemtrails and shared three songs back in May (“Blue Banisters,” “Text Book,” “Wildflower Wildfire”) with the intention of a July 4th release. But the album was well worth the wait....
Coldplay christened Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena last night, and Chris Martin took the opportunity to pay homage to the city’s hometown heroes Pearl Jam by covering their Vitalogy song “Nothingman.” “So, ‘cause we’re here in Seattle, we wanted to pay tribute to one of the bands we fell in love with when we were just young teenagers in the ‘90s,” he explained to the crowd before urging fans not to upload footage to YouTube because this was not going to a pristine rendition of the 1994 track. “This is a 44-year-old man remembering how much he fell in love with Pearl Jam in 1991. If you told that kid he’d be here singing this song, he would’ve said ‘You sure that’s a good idea?’ And I’d say ‘Maybe not, but I’m doing it.’” Martin then brought up drummer Will Champion to play p...
Blockchain is rapidly becoming the innovative force industry insiders have been promising for years. The number of projects and artists offering their works using it as a core technology may be shifting the current economic model under which most musicians operate. Non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, allow independent artists to earn income and engage with their fan base without always relying on a label or streaming service like Spotify. In March, 3LAU, an electronic dance music producer, sold more than $11 million worth of tokens redeemable for real-world goods — including music — in addition to a $3 million token holder who bid for the right to collaborate with the artist. Paul Oakenfold, another well-known EDM DJ, announced in September he would be launching a tokenized album on the Cardano ...
McCreery wrote “Five More Minutes” alongside Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell, and the song was one of three consecutive No. 1 Country Airplay hits from McCreery’s 2018 album Seasons Change. “It’s [about] my grandaddy. That’s my story, but I think people relate to every part of the song,” McCreery told Billboard of “Five More Minutes” in 2018. In that same interview, McCreery also recalled a key moment when he realized the song stood a good chance of becoming a hit. “We sang [‘Five More’] live at the Grand Ole Opry, and kinda debuted it for the fans in [June] 2016, and I’ve never had a standing ovation at the Opry like that, period. Somebody said the other day, ‘The Opry crowd, they wanna sit. They don’t wanna stand...
Megan Thee Stallion continues to be in the Halloween spirit. On Friday (Oct. 22), the “Thot Shit” rapper took to Instagram to share her newest set of spooky nails. “Spooky $et,” the rapper captioned the post of her nails, which features several versions of Ghostface from Scream — one face is bejeweled, while the others are sparkly, starry-eyed and bloody. Along with the images of her decked-out nails, Megan posed in a Ghostface mask and oversize Venom T-shirt, using a knife as a prop to complete the scary look. Finishing off the rapper’s photo set was a screen grab from the 2000 Scream spoof Scary Movie, where “Ghostface” is on the phone telling the person on the other end of the receiver that he’s “just chillin’, ...
Long-running hard rockers L.A. GUNS will release their new studio album, “Checkered Past”, on November 12 via Frontiers Music Srl. The official music video for the LP’s third single, “Get Along”, can be seen below. Written and recorded during late 2020 and early 2021, “Checkered Past” sees Tracii Guns, Phil Lewis and company continuing with the darker lyrical tone of the preceding studio albums, “The Devil You Know” and “The Missing Peace”, while incorporating their classic rock influences into the mix. Heavier songs are mixed with bluesier, boogie inducing tracks and dark, introspective ballads, often harkening back to the first three albums the band made, but also pushing the band forward. When fans absorb the album as a w...
Cleopatra Records has announced the signing of synthwave act PRIEST featuring former members of Grammy Award-winning Swedish rock act GHOST. Hailing from the same icy darkness of the Scandinavian inland that birthed GHOST, PRIEST consists of a trio of musicians — vocalist Mercury, who was known as Water when he played bass for GHOST, keyboardist Salt, formerly known as GHOST keyboardist Air, and programmer/ keyboardist Sulfur — who came together in 2017 and started releasing their own unique brew of electronic music that bears little sonic resemblance to their former band yet still shares the same creative DNA. But whereas GHOST borrowed their theatrics from old school horror and ’80s rock, PRIEST comes steeped in cyberpunk and industrial music. Cleopatra owner Brian Perera states: &...
Two months ago, Joey Jordison‘s SINSAENUM bandmate Frédéric Leclercq spoke to the Impact metal channel about the passing of the founding SLIPKNOT drummer. In the chat, which has just now been uploaded to YouTube, he was asked if he knew what caused Joey‘s death, Leclercq said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “That’s not my place to discuss. Of course I know. I’m just saying it’s not my position. The family asked for privacy at that time, and I respect that. It’s just very sad.” Asked how he would summarize Jordison‘s legacy, Frédéric, a former member of DRAGONFORCE who now plays bass in KREATOR, said: “To me, he was more than a musician. To me, he was first and foremost a friend. So I lost a friend that was only 46 years old,...
Fan-filmed video footage of LAST IN LINE‘s October 22 performance at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania can be seen below. Formed in 2012 by drummer Vinny Appice, guitarist Vivian Campbell and bassist Jimmy Bain — Ronnie James Dio‘s co-conspirators and co-writers on the “Holy Diver”, “Last In Line” and “Sacred Heart” albums — LAST IN LINE‘s initial intent was to celebrate Ronnie James Dio‘s early work by reuniting the members of the original DIO lineup. After playing shows that featured a setlist composed exclusively of material from the first three DIO albums, the band decided to move forward and create new music in a similar vein. LAST IN LINE‘s debut album, “Heavy Crown”, was released in February 20...
Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan has teamed up with longtime musical partner Soulsavers (aka Rich Machin) to take on the 1967 soul classic “The Dark End of the Street.” The duo’s version of the track appears on their upcoming covers album Imposter. For their take, Gahan stays faithful to the original and is joined by a group of background singers on the last verse, which features lyrics like “When the daylight hour rolls around/ And by chance we’re both downtown/ If we should meet, just walk on by/ Oh darling, please don’t cry.” Written by Chips Moman and Dan Penn in 1966, “The Dark End Of The Street” was initially recorded by James Carr. The track became Carr’s signature single, peaking at No. 10 on the Billboard Black Singles Chart and No. 77 on the Hot 100. Since then, it’s been covered b...

“If this is the end, I want a boyfriend,” Lana Del Rey sings on “Black Bathing Suit,” one of the standout tracks on her eighth album, Blue Banisters. The pop balladeer has long mooned over romantic apocalypse, but with this collection, she gets to set explorations of doomed relationships against the backdrop of global crisis. At their best, Del Rey’s ruminations in an emergency extend her range on all levels — lyrics, vocals, dynamics, and candor. Throughout her prolific, decade-long career, Del Rey has leaned into nostalgic fantasy with a faded silver-screen sheen — writing Gatsby cosplay, tragic Hollywood heroine apologias, and references to the unhinged end of the 1960s that make it sound like it happened yesterday. (Didn’t it?) But on Blue Banisters, Del Rey weaves the relatable banal ...
